Hey folks, I'm getting ready to do a drain and flush on my '94 mazda miata with a copper brass radiator the previous owner installed. It has an aluminum engine. DIY flushes are a real pain in the butt, so what do you recommoned in a long life coolant for my combination? I'm considering either Amsoil, Toyota Pink, or G-05, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer on what to use, other than not Dexcool in copper/brass radiators. Thanks!

G-05 works well with copper/brass radiators. I don't think Toyota pink does but the red should but is not long life.

Add another vote for G-05. Good protection for multi-metal cooling systems, no (or at least very, very rare) problems with breakdown/sludge formation.

The modern formula of Prestone will work well at the low end.

If you do a good flush, Peak Global Lifetime is a good choice for a "lifetime" fluid (i.e. between water pump or timing belt changes).

My friends with Miatas use both. Well, not mixed together, in different cars.

Wow, that was quick! I think I'll go with either g-05 or peak global lifetime, both are relatively inexpensive and widely available. Thanks!

G-05 is Zerex G-05. It's also known as Motorcraft Gold (Ford) and the long life (reddish, IIRC) Mopar coolant. It's a different chemistry than Dexcool.

They are almost completely different. G-05 is considered a HOAT because it contains silicates (IAT) and sodium benzoate (OAT). And also has nitrite (for use in diesels) and borate as the buffer. Dexcool is an OAT that uses more effective OATS and is nitrite, borate and silicate free. The 2 might be chemically mixable but if mixed together in any quantity I think you'd get poor corrosion protection. I believe G12, PGL and Dexcool would all be compatibile with each other as they are very similar OAT formulas.
