Help Finding a Replacement!

That's what I said on the recent thread about the 15 year old girl who just got a 2-1/2 ton pickup given to her for her first vehicle. Others on here "couldn't handle the truth"......
Still smarting because you didn't want her to drive an F150? Or because somebody disagreed with your post?
The poster lives up north, was GIVEN a 4WD pickup and you're still crying about that because it was a first vehicle? Geesh....
Since you are still losing sleep over that post, buy his daughter a vehicle that you think she needs...out of your wallet. ;)

^^Or my 2007 Volvo V70 base (non-turbo, FWD) with 149K which is for sale.
I would do that in a heartbeat as a car for a young driver.

Inexpensive to buy, safest possible option, a practical car, and the one you can still fix yourself.

A BITOG’er giving praise to a Toyota product? This post needs to be reported to the authorities!

Sorry about the loss of vehicle; glad your kid is just fine. IMO you should give him the keys to a nice new shiny bus pass. :)

I’m still shopping myself, it’s been a year and I still haven’t replaced the last car that got totaled. [is this where I can admit that I want another Toyota too? or do I have to keep that on the downlow?]
I don't even need a vehicle currently 🤞and that Volvo V70 wagon from Kira is tempting. Even gets an Astro14 endorsement.

Slap some fresh winter shoes on it and drive on.

My son flipped my wife's 2012 Santa Fe 3 years ago. Forget the price of the car, going forward, insurance is gonna kill ya.....big bucks. He's paying it, but its a lot.

When I received my license at 16 I had my own car and I was gone a lot! My poor mother! She got me back though. Before she passed she warned me I would have a kid that was ME! My middle kid is it!

Driver inexperience is real. The boy was driving the 2012 RAV4 2.5 to school (its 40 minute drive from home and no buses) and gets caught up in a 3 car chain reaction accident. Soooo, obviously he is responsible for the rear end damage to the car in front of him. Nobody was hurt so that's a big bonus. Now the hard part! Finding a replacement vehicle. This is where I could use some help!

I haven't received the payout amount but should be about 10k. I am not up on anything used in the 10k realm. What are BIGTOG's recommendations? Reliable and vanilla is the goal! I already miss that RAV4; so easy to work on and easy on oil.
I would look at the vehicle to see if it's really totalled. My mom rear ended someone years ago and it did minor sheetmetal damage. The insurance company was going to write it off. My dad showed the adjuster that no airbags went off nor and frame members were bent. They decided to fix it.

If it was safely able to be repaired I'd go that route. Exceptionally clean car that just hit 100k. First and only question asked abut damage was location of damage and did airbags go off. They did, so she's done.
