Here in the hottest city in the U.S., the record for days over 110 in Phoenix in a year was 32. We beat that record a week ago, and we've been over 110 since then. Here's the 15 day forecast:

Wow, those temps are amazing, I never much thought areas got that hot, I thought 95+ was hot in my area ( which I like) ...
I almost wish I was there ... simply because you dont have rain in the forecast and experience "hot"

With respect to solar, yesterday's supply numbers show it positive from 6:25a to 7:50p. It goes negative after that, peak negative 43MW at 6am.

I understand the system cannot take all the solar production during peak hours and that much of the peak solar production is dumped on the Nevada grid.

Would depend on demand, but yes, that's certainly possible. Curtailing and dumping output is quite common, we do it very frequently for wind during the low demand spring and fall periods here in Ontario and then we lean on gas to replace it during the summer when it buggers off for several months.

Where you'd likely see solar curtailment and/or dumping is when the ambient temperature isn't overly high but the sky is clear. AC demand would then be low, so you'd have excessive generation potential.

We managed to hit 129gCO2/kWh yesterday afternoon. It was hot, overcast and still. Wind output was, expectedly, in the toilet and we had an unexpected outage at Bruce where unit 2 went down at that time.

Yeah it hasn't rained since April 12th.

The news says supposedly it rained a few weeks ago, but it was only enough to barely get the windshield wet.

1) Seeing a series of tweets by @eburgess,

about how is Tesla powerwall (a large battery bank) was supplementing power to the grid Friday during peak demand (it was in "Self Power" mode).

Saturday it was put into "Storm Mode" because of a storm watch issued (by NWS?). So, it charged from the grid, his home consumed power from the grid 6-7p (peak demand) as sun went down. He manually overrode it at 8p. Powerwall then proceeded to power his home, so he stopped drawing from the grid.

2) Saw a tweet from @3bern: he has solar panels, is supplying to the grid, yet was cut off due to rotating power outage.

Interesting. Thanks for the post. Does anyone know what a power wall sells for or leases out at? In the old days it was a bank of 12 V batteries and now its a power wall composed of Lithium Ion batteries.
