Okay, I'm trying to shrink my belly in hopes of not having a fat picture for graduation next spring (I hate looking at my high school one). Just started really trying to get this to work a few days ago. I will be going back to school in a few days and will have more control over what I eat compared to being home because I do the shopping then.

One of the foods that I'm trying to incorporate into my days is fat free cottage cheese because of the amount of protein in it and the low calories. But this stuff doesn't taste all that great. Not terrible but it doesn't suit my taste. Anyway to improve it?

I've tried eating healthy in the past but it didn't last long because the healthy stuff tastes so bland and I'm a bit of a foodie. Found out that broccoli tastes pretty good being pan seered with a bit of salt and pepper (I've already like broccoli though). Now I need to figure easy to fix up, healthy, good tasting food to fill my week (I know, sounds like a complete paradox). Suggestion for other healthy stuff are appreciated as well in addition to making cottage cheese a little more appetizing.

Fat-free or low-fat stuff might not even work:
1. Low-fat and fat-free foods frequently have more sugar.
2. Fat makes us feel full faster. When you eat something with low or no fat, you will just eat more.
I recall eating tons of very fatty stuff in Europe. In France, when I lived with a family in Dijon, evetry morning we ate tons of white bread with lots of butter and cheese. I still lost weight.

How does the savory taste of the cottage cheese jive with the aspartame in sugar free yogurt? Or is there a plain or sweet version of cottage cheese?

Here is what to do:

- take the cottage cheese;
- mix it with sour cream to a consistency of thick batter, you will need to crush the curd of cottage cheese;
- sweeten with sugar.

It's not low calorie but will help you stay healthy. You want to lose weight so avoid artificial foods and eat in moderation.

here's a good one-fresh spinach leaves and a hot pan with a little salt,pepper, garlic and butter.stir the spinach around just long enough to wilt it a bit.
also try a granola bar or a 2 or 3 oatmeal cookies with a glass of water 15 minutes before you eat.it'll make you feel full quicker.

Yeah, I just realized canned tuna tasted good a couple days ago. It's going to be my got to for quick lunches. Also, canned chicken.

The bacon salt sounds good. I love bacon. Too bad it's so fat. Might get the pre-cooked stuff and have a couple pieces once in a while. Good protein right? lol

I'm not cutting out fat. I am just trying to eat healthier fats. Hopefully in moderation.

Peanut butter, peanuts, cashews, almonds, and fatty fish are good sources of fat without eating lard.

NO HFCS, no sugar, no white flower. In fact cut way back on any grain flour.

Eat lots of vegetables, cooked and raw. Eat plenty of very lean meat.

You will feel full and still lose weight.

Oh and I need them to be easy too since I'm lazy at cooking and classes and homework will take up a lot of time.

Do frozen and canned veggies have the same amount of nutrients as fresh veggies?

How about white rice? That's a big staple in my diet. Might try brown, although I have a feeling I won't like it.

I normally don't eat that much bread, so cutting back on grain flour shouldn't be too hard. Might have to use wheat bread a few times a week and spaghetti once to thrice a month though.

How about stuff made with rice flour? I normally have ramen for a quick lunch a few times a week, but if rice noodles are okay then I can replace ramen with that.

Greens and meats are so easy to cook a caveman could do it.

Some frozen veggies are OK. Canned? YUck.

Sumo wrestlers eat white rice to get large....hmm....best just to avoid it, IF you are serious about dropping the gut. Same with any noodles. Sorry. Brown rice is OK, just limit it to a cup of cooked - twice per week or so.

You won't lose a gut unless you get serious. Ask me how I know.

I know too Pablo! Definitely will need to cut the rice down to a minimum. Tofu is your friend too. They now make high protein lower carb pastas as well. Check it out at a whole foods or a nutritional store. If you get into a fast food kick just roll into T-bell and get a couple of bean burritos. Seriously their nutritional facts aren't that bad and you can load them up with some habanero hot sauce for that extra kick. Avoid oily peanuts and such...they will kill you fast LOL! Almonds are a treat and blue diamond makes some awesome flavors these days to mix it up.

Beer will get you too so if you need to have a drink either take hard liquor on the rocks or mixed with diet sodas and such. Don't forget to get some exercise in the mix. I know that you said that you don't have a lot of time, but if you avoid getting sucked into TMZ or a documentary you could get some walking, biking or jogging done. Good luck my brother start managing your weight before you get older...it's a lot easier when you are young!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm going to try to get exercise in there. I went for 3 mile walks yesterday, Tuesday, and Monday. Took today off since I'm still sore from the few push ups and squats (with light dumb bells) I did yesterday. I'm weak lol. I ride my bike to class when it's not raining outside so I get some exercise.

This should work out if I give it a hard try since I was able to lose 20 lbs in freshmen year just from having to walk to class. Of course there were a couple hills at my last school though. Gained all that weight back from having access to a car, school shuttle, and whatever junk food I felt like having. The TV and internet also had a big role too. Don't drink much so I'm safe there.

I sure hope I stay motivated enough this time to make it work. I've given up before.

I take back what I said about not having a reasonably priced produce place outside of the super market. Just remembered the Chinese place that I frequent has a good amount of greens. Will have to give their fresh stuff a better look.
