i was looking at havoline synthetic. on the oil charts bob has here, it looks wonderful!! i was comapring it to mobile 1 synthetic on paper, and it seems the havoline outperforms! i wonder why it hasnt caught on?i have a 1995 plymouth neon, SOHC. veyr hard drivin, stop and go traffic, even on the highway here. my car has a rear main oil leak. synthetic is coming out a little faster than with regualr oil. i was looking at valvolin hihg mileage synthetic. that any good? i was thinking of using a good stop leak additive with the havoline synthetic, thats why i ask about it as well.

IIRC, it's a Group III synthetic, so most folks feel it's over-priced for what you get, IMHO.

With that said, I've used it in my wife's Expedition, & was happy with it.

I picked up 42 quarts at AutoZone during the yearly clearence sale for $1 per Qt. It is a decent Group III oil, that I have no problem using in my 96 Corvette for 5000 OCI

Like Wavinwayne, its overpriced at $4 per quart. For less money you can get Mobil 7500.

I used Hav. synth. 5-40 several times while it was readily available here. It was an awesome product. Much better than M-1...save for Delvac.

Hi There. You can see in my thread about the Mazda MX6 engine oil that I ask about the Havoline Synthetic 5W40 as well as Havoline Energy Synthetic 5W30. There was a consensus that it was good, but not as good as Amsoil or Shell Helix. Also the OCI was said to be shorter - around 10kkm, whereas the Shell/Amsoil could go to 15-20kkm.

ziggy any decent quality oil will work fine as long as you change it on time.

If you drive rough in stop and go, then either go with a good quality true synthetic (Grp IV) and change it at an extended OCI (dont forget analysis to figure that out) or go with a decent dino and change it sooner (3000 miles)
