Havoline Synthetic 0w-20 - Does it really exist?

I emailed Chevron this past weekend to ask them if Havoline Synthetic 0w-20 really exists. Has anybody ever seen it, either in person or on the Internet? I'd be interested in giving it a try in my wife's Ford Focus station wagon.

I'm a Platinum 0w-20 user, so obviously I'm comfortable ordering off the Internet.

However, I can't find the Havoline 0w-20 anywhere.

Why not Mobil 1 0w20....its fairly easy to find....Some WalMarts have it...as well as O'Reileys and Autozone.

Considered by many here to be an excellent oil....

YES! This product does exist. As a matter of fact, I have 12 quarts of Havoline Synthetic 0W20 sitting in my garage.

In December, I wrote a short letter to the CEO of Chevron, expressing my frustration in finding this product anywhere in Michigan - on the retail level. In the letter, I stated, I was a long time Havoline user, who was about to go over to the "Dark Side" and use ExxonMobil products because of their widespread availability - and lack of Chevron availability.

For my efforts, they sent me the 12 quarts for free! I too, was interested in finding this product because it is (I believe), the thinnest 0W20 on the market. [8.0 cst@100C & 41 cst@40C]. Just want you want, for maximum fuel economy purposes when gas prices hit $5/gallon this summer. I haven't used any of it yet. I plan on putting it in a Ford Focus.

There is the possibility you can find this product at your local Chevron Distributor. However, I am the kind of guy who likes to see and feel the bottle at the retail level, before I buy.Bottom line, if there is a product you can't find in your area, complain to the top boss - in writing.

Not switching from Platinum. My comment about PP was just that I didn't mind ordering oil off the Internet. If I switch from Platinum (being used in my Honda Insight), I'd switch to Castrol EDGE 0w-20. No, I want to try the Havoline in my wife's Focus, which is currently using Mobil 1 0w-20.

That is what I'm currently using in the car that would switch to the Havoline. I'm happy with the Mobil 1, and will obviously keep using it if I can't find the Havoline.

That is what I'm currently using in the car that would switch to the Havoline. I'm happy with the Mobil 1, and will obviously keep using it if I can't find the Havoline.

I wouldn't call it an obsession, more of a curiosity. I'd like to give it a try but simply can't find it. Furthermore, Mobil 1 1 0w-20 and Havoline Synthetic 0w-20 are the only 0w-20 that specifically state they meet the Ford WSS M2C930-A spec. So, since I want to put a WSS M2C930-A spec oil in our Ford Focus that calls for it, I am currently stuck using Mobil 1 0w-20 or am forced to go with a 5w-20. This would give me another option.

Either of the Mobil 1 (0w or 5w-20), that is speced for your Focus...will work great. Keep using what works.... and what your happy with. If you used Havoline....your Focus whould not know the difference.

I currently have Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 in my Focus....and am very pleased with it. I currently have about 8,500 on it.... and plan an OCI of 10,000 +/-.

I do plan on using Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 on my next change....mainly because I got a great deal on it.... it has great reports on BITOG....and for it extra cleaning ability. Also....it available locally in many places....should I want to continue using it.

I should have said, Havoline is the thinnest 0W20 you can find at engine operating temperature [8.0 cst@100C]. Much thinner than the Amsoil 0W20 that I previously had [9.0 cst@100C]. Also thinner than Mobil 1 0W20. For a Focus that averaged 34 to 35 mpg hwy, on the Amsoil, I hope to gain a couple of mpg on highway trips, just by an oil change.

Chevron has distributors nationwide. Call the toll free number on their web site . The distributor near my residence would not order me a couple cases and I did not wish to drive out of my way to the next closest distributor.

It's a common misconception that you can rely on the KV100 spec' to compare the relative "thickness" of different oils.
You can't. What you can rely on is the very accurate HTHS vis' spec' and when it comes to 20wt oils, since most have a HTHS vis of 2.6cP they will all have the same operational viscosity regardless of what their KV100 spec's might be.

But you are right about Amsoil 0W-20 being a thick 20wt oil but the real real why is it's HTHS vis of 2.8cP
