Average bitoger: “I changed HPL at 3.5k miles because my 90hp Kia rio falls under severe service and also oil is cheap, engines aren’t!”
And changed the filter halfway - posted what (hacked so badly) looked like an opossum run over by a Mack truck …
(although the odds of that is low) …

What a poorly designed, difficult to read graphic. Does that even meet accessibility requirements? When I build a website I have to run it through tools to ensure everything is readable so we don’t get sued. Does packaging have the same requirement?

The 25,000 Castrol claim terrifies me. I don't understand why they put that on the bottle.
Would it make you feel better if it said 3000 miles instead?
I’m of the opposite mindset, even though I would not run it for 25k, it would give me peace of mind knowing that the oil is formulated for extended intervals. It’s better than the oils with no rating whatsoever

I don't like the thought of consumers believing they can go 25k between oil changes. It feels like a pretty big authority when Castrol slaps that on their label. It's not much of a leap to be your everyday car owner and start to believe that is ok (plus not much of a leap to apply it to other oils).

I do understand what you're suggesting, it makes it clear what oil is their top offering.

I see your point but at the same time I don’t feel sorry for anyone who just blindly believes that mileage rating and starts doing those kinds of intervals without doing any research or UOAs

There are also probably plenty of people out there that are the type who don’t change their oil for many years and might be putting that kind of mileage on cheap conventional bulk oil 😵‍💫

These most certainly exist.

In the mid 90’s I was going to college & my 1st job when moving there was changing oil & patching tires at a local Chevron station. Had a 40 something year old lady in a newish Z28 come in & ask me to “top off” her oil. When I checked the level there was only a bit of tar like sludge on the end of the dipstick. I asked her when was the last oil change. She said it never had one. I recommend an oil change & she just said “I don’t have time for that, I need to go to LA”. We were in SLO County. I just informed her she’s likely going to have some serious issues soon & put about 3qts in that poor car. If I recall correctly the Z28 had around 25-30k miles on it.

Better read the fine print on that 🫣
Agreed but I’d be more likely to believe the Havoline Pro-DS to last a 10k run than a shelf Castrol to go 25k under the same conditions.

I’ve always thought Chevron put out a solid product. Maybe not always affordable or maybe not top of their competitive class in performance but just an overall solid performing product. Some items better than others of course but nothing that’s crap.
