Looking for OCI recommendation. 1991 Chevrolet K1500, 4.3 TBI. Mostly short, in town miles. Average about 6k miles per year. Havoline HM. Odometer broke so I do time based OCIs. Should I change every 6 months (April and October) or can Havoline HM handle one year/6k OCI'S?

Short trips and no odometer - I'd do twice a year as you suggest ... maybe keep the filter if a good one
good idea to get under a truck that age twice a year with a flashlight to look it over good ...
PS: had that truck/motor in a single cab with locker - it could get dirty - in 4Lo at least ...

Yes, I had planned to run the filter one year or two OCI's. Typically Napa Gold/Wix. I may switch to Fram Ultra and run it one year.

You can also go with a schedule based on the amount of fuel consumed.
Change oil after certain amount of gallons burnt, or simply after certain amount of fill-ups.

My mileage is fairly consistent. I know that when the odometer did work, I was averaging about 125 miles per week (500 miles per month, 6000 miles per year). My driving habits have not changed. Worse case scenario, I change oil a little early if I change it at 6 months. My current fill is Shell Rotella 10w30. Just using up a left over jug. Figured 10w30 would be o.k. for a summer run. I have six jugs of Havoline HM 5w30 bought on Amazon for less than $2/qt.That's enough for 3 to 6 years, depending on OCI frequency.

Havoline is a good oil, I see problem running it with a Fram Tough Guard/Wix for a year with your situation.
I have some Havoline HM in my truck now and it seems to have quieted it down a little (had a little startup tick, not sure if it was the oil or filter).
