O'Reilly's just recently had a sale on Havoline oil.I was going to buy 5qts of 5W20 (still have 1 qt of MS5K) for my next oil change. Counter guy said Havoline doesn't make 5W20. WM does not sell 5W20 either. I checked Havolines website and they show it. Is there a reason it is not sold in certain areas?

I'm thinking about sending Havoline an e-mail asking why.

Some areas have it and some don't. Some of my local Walmarts sell it in 5W-20, some don't. Both AutoZone and Advance near me sell it in all flavors as I recall.

AZ near me has it, sometimes. AAPs is 52 miles from me so I don't know about them.NAPA and Carquest near me don't sell it.I'm seeing a pattern form here.

Unless you have a personal preference for Havoline, just go for the MS5K at WM. It is $13 for a 5QT container and they should have it in 5W-20. My modular engine cannot tell the difference between MS5K and Pennzoil Ultra...

I have read gazillions of threads about 5W20 vs 5W30. I have even posted q?s here about it. I know for a fact,my engine (2007 Ford 4.2V6) has NEVER changed its clearances and tolerences since 1997,when they called for 5W30 back then.I just play the game, since 5W20 is plentiful. It is funny though,to hear some of the reasons;" Your engine will blow up,you will ruin the bearings and crank, the 5W20 police will arrest you

Yes,this is true.

I was just wanting to know if it just an "area" thing as to why Havoline is not sold for a reason. I thought $1.99 a qt was a good price, and I could save $3 over WMs price of $13 for MS5K.

The counter guy is just towing the company line. What he should of said is that his particular store just doesn't carry it. My local O'Reilly store always gives the line that you can only buy the oil (whatever is on sale) in the quart containers, but not the 5 quart containers, or vice versa.

I get the same garbage, and they won't let me upgrade filters either, even though the District Manager I know told me they are supposed to.

AAP gets almost all my auto parts store spending dollars nowadays.

Havoline definitely has 5W-20, Rural King (like a Farm & Fleet or TSC) sells 5W-20 Havoline and has it for around $3.00 a quart. If you have some kind of farm supply store in your area you might give them a try.

Personally, I would not even bother searching for the Havoline when there are better conventional`s out there much easier to get.

As 2010_FX4 stated,MS5K has some great numbers, at a great price. I just thought that the Havoline, at $1.99 a qt., was a good deal, while I was at O'Reilly's at the time.

Well yeah, looking at it that way, at that price and all. I gues your right. But if it was priced the same as others I wouldnt bother.
