Agree on the SUV thing. Has to be the most impracticle vehicle on the road for most of its users. I know one single child family that has a monster SUV and uses it to pick up groceries and vey little else. It's their choice of course, and thnaks for paying all that gas tax.

Saudi Arabia is not the only place the world gets oil. Russia is sitting on huge reserves that they have just begun to tap. Quatar does not have oil, but huge natural gas reserves. First Shell, and now ExxonMobil are building gas to liquids plants there. Yes, the prices may never go down from here, but dont count on massive shortages anytime soon.

I get real tired of the SUV-bashing thing. No, I dont own or want one. The marketplace will ultimately decide things in the long run. Back when gasoline was forty cents a gallon, the average American sedan got 12mpg. Today, SUV's are shrinking in size with $2 gasoline. Ford is discontinuing the Excursion because it is not selling well. The much smaller Escape is now doing much better.

I just saw the article and copy and pasted the lead in just as it was. I'm not the one bashing SUV's. If you want to pay all those Gasoline Taxes just to impress the neighbors go for it.
I think the author was pointing out that the ability to continue pumping cheap oil is almost over. Plus he is pointing out what I have been hearing more and more that demand (China and India) is out striping our ability to pump. We have 50 to 100 years of oil but how expensive is it going to get to pump it out of the ground. The problem with the oil in Russia is where it is located.
Most of their reserves are in Siberia and there is only a 5 to 6 month window each year to look and drill for oil due to the environmental extremes.
Right now it is the logistical problems of building thousands of miles of roads to get to the area where they need to drill. This area is extremely remote and uninhabited.

That is the heart of the matter: If demand is growing faster than production- Its the same as production peaking.
