+1, now that's funny!
I guess there's no chance the Highlander is made in NA?

The OEM Denso for my Corolla is made in USA. Some of the cars in Toyota's lineup are still assembled in the US. Others are assembled somewhere in NA.

I saw an article a while back the Camry had more domestic parts than the F150.

About $1 will leave your country if you buy a non US filter. You (US) are spending 70 Billion a year on imported oil paying for it with money borrowed from China and Japan. Do you think the $1 filter really matters?

It all adds up does it not? But the larger problem is there is not much else available. I had a colleague that visited from Shanghai and when he was headed home wanted to purchase some souvenirs. After shopping for a while, he says (I kid you not) could you take me somewhere where I can buy something that is NOT made in China? Are there any filters still made in the US?

The fact that there are no US made souvenirs is more a reflection of the fact that the US is an advanced economy. If you want US made goods there are lots of them for sale here in Canada, if fact more US made products here than Canadian made.

300 Million cars on the road. Say 200 million are well-maintaned. 3 months per oil change for most, longer for others... Lets say three per year on average... 600 million filters.

75% made overseas = 400 million filters, $1 per = $400 million... Yes I'd say it matters. That is only on oil filters. Apply that to every other widget we buy at wal mart with a similar overseas manufacture profile and it REALLY adds up.

Not to start into politics, but I think it is more of a reflection that we in the US want it cheaper and faster and we want this in an exponential growth pattern. China just happens to fit that bill at this point in time--not long ago it was Japan, Taiwan, etc.

/agree wholeheartedly--now if everyone would see this and try to force change...

400 million dollars is peanuts in the big scheme of things. Also, your numbers are assumeing that everyone in the US will go out and buy a US made filer. They are not going to do that. Most people don't know or even care where their oil filter is made. Many don't even know what n oil filter is. You may get a few hundred people to buy them that are members here, and that is not enough to even be statistically significant. If you want to buy one for peace of mind, or to sleep at night I can understand that, buy the money leaving the country argument is very weak...

JHZR2,

With so many cash poor Americans just trying to make it and living in 'survival mode'... Whats so bad about shopping at Walmart to save a few dollars ?

I hate to say this but the amount of Americans struggling to make ends meet is growing so fast its scary. Walmarts sales spike when EBT cards are activated on the first day of the month at 12 AM.

If we quit buying MAde in China, they will need to cash in our debt that they bought, and then we will really be up **** creek without a paddle.
