Hard gear selection '95 Lumina

On car in subject line moving gear selector from park through reverse to drive and back takes a lot of force- more than it should and more than it used to. But, with key on but car not running it's moves easy.

Transmission shifts fine and seems fine otherwise, fluid changed not too long ago. I lubricated pivot point under dash.

Any ideas? Something in transmission?

Not sure of the linkage on this car but it sounds like you might have a bad mount, possibly the dog bones up front.

We have had the same problem in a 2003 Malibu and a 1999 Grand Am. Never did figure out what it was...

I forgot to mention that maybe it wasn't exactly the same, but similar. Those cars are/were difficult to put the car into gear from park, unless you pushed the brake pedal extremely hard.
