This is the biggest statistical shenanigan I've ever seen.

How many American in general are married between the age of 15 and 44? The typical age of people getting married these days are what? 30? This number by itself just means people are not getting married as early as before.

Do you want your kids to be married at 15? Seriously?

I don't need to read the rest of the numbers, I already know the author has an agenda.

Frederick Douglass would have perhaps been a better choice given the supposed need for a national holiday celebrating an African American.
Just my worthless opinion.

Forget agenda, the statistics about black families are stark and disturbing. They are facts whether they are liked or not, and available from varying sources to anyone with the courage to look for them on the Net.

It's sad that the black community is represented by leaders such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who seem to have many interests that conflict with their professed ideals. To an outsider they appear to be a poor example if you look beyond their public persona.

There have been many great black Americans worthy of adulation, but few of them make headlines.

So the point of this thread to me is that more government workers obtain yet another paid holiday while the rest of us go to work.

Our place, the union voted down giving up another day(Patriots day :)) to take MLK day off.

I wonder how many of these folsk would attend all these ceremonies etc if they had to do them on say a Saturday on their own time vs gettting paid??

Per MLK, yes I suppose he spoke up about intolerance, hoepfully we have become better for his vision, but I agree, reverse discrimination is alive and well, seen it first hand. Many hires are not based on performance and that is a sad day IMHO
