Handicapped or entitled? Not returning shopping cart

I gotta say - no dust will collect on a basket at our HEB - it’s one of the few places still hiring young folks - and they keep the lot clear !

HEB gets great reviews. And that’s an understatement. Reported a very honorable and quality organization.

Was at King Soopers ( a Kroger owned chain)this weekend. Every “deal” is a trick. Electronic coupon for this deal, shoppers card for that deal. Low quality steaks in the very nicest of packages, with names like “prime signature”. Those prime signature steaks would pass as choice. Felt like I needed a shower after shopping at King Soopers.

Hope a Kroger, Albertsons or the like never buys them out..

One of our guys from Louisiana is on a one year assignment in Houston. They just rave about HEB and even surprised by the Louisiana crawfish … Told him they must have brought a mating pair west bcs they have massive ponds 25 miles from me 😷

I have to confess that I did not read this whole post but I’d like to share my experience with people who don’t return their shopping carts. I’m ok watching older people or parents with kids leave their carts. But not some healthy 20s young man doing it. I was walking out of the supermarket and see this young man unload his cart into his trunk and then push it to the side. I watch him get into his car. I quickly grab the cart and pull it behind his car and walk off. A few seconds later I hear a loud crunch. I keep walking and wonder if he ever got the message??

How is requiring a loyalty card and downloading coupons to it a "trick"?
Do you avoid using airline and hotel loyalty memberships on your frequent travels?

Super markets use shoppers card to get data. That's how they can offer "suggestions just for you". I'm not saying it's good-or bad. It is what it is.
When you don't understand something -"it's a trick". The cards can be physical or digital.

Flame me for this one! I was driving my MIL's car today to Trader Joe's and it was in one of those mixed use urban commercial shopping centers that are so popular right now and had paid parking! Looked down and say the HP placard and couldn't resist the temptation of free parking.

If the MIL wasn't with you, as you seem to imply, being proud of fraudulently parking in a Handicapped spot, pretty much says it all.

And you're proud of yourself ?

25 years ago, some stores had a mechanism on each cart. To release a cart for use, you had to insert a quarter. To get your quarter returned to you, you had to return the cart. Maybe that would work again if they raised it from a quarter to a full dollar. It would provide a use for dollar coins and get us used to using them. In Canada and Europe where the Euro is used, there is no paper money worth as little as a US dollar.

Aldi does that, it works great.

Still like that at one local ALDI'S grocery store.

Sort of - I've noticed my local Aldi seems to have carts sitting in the lot lately, which is unusual. They also added an automated gate at the exit to self-checkout that requires you to scan the barcode on the receipt to be able to exit.

That's odd, usually if someone doesn't return an Aldi cart another shopper quickly grabs it because they forgot their quarter or plan to cash in!

It must work well. Our local Aldi has all of their carts in the rack at the front of the store. There is never a loose one out in the lot.

I don't know about you guys, but lately I've been seeing people leave their trash in the carts. So they must bring their goods to the car, unload the cart, clean out their car of all the fast-food garbage, leaving it to the store to clean up in the end. Thats straight up classy behavior :cautious:

This is how a lot of stores do it in Canada. A loonie ($1coin) in the slot releases the chain from the back. Stick it back in and the coin in released.

That's what caught my attention. Earlier this week there were 3 carts out in the lot. I've seen people leave their carts by the storage area in the front of the store but not connect it to the rest so I guess that is some sort of "pay it forward" thing, but it looks like the carts are becoming free-range carts now.
