Ok ok before I get beat down more; it will be for home defense and target shooting. I have ideas of what I’m looking for.
Like this? I do like itShield Plus. Highly recommended.
Carry, HD, training, etc. It's an awesome product from SW
But her two 9-rings were “only” liver shots and not shattered sternum shrapnel!!Does the range you go to, or one around, have rental guns so you can try a couple different ones? Anyone around you with property/setup that you can try some different ones from friends?
For just range/plinking the various 22LR ones are not that expensive and neither is ammo.
We have a couple CMMG conversion 22LR for the AR's so we can just shoot and have fun at a much cheaper price than the .223/5.56
My wife has a smaller Ruger LC9s 9mm for carry. When we go to range she takes it and keeps up practice. Overall she prefers my Glock 17 and shoots it better more consistently as well as the Glock 19. Size, short barrel, etc. make it harder to stay on target.
Not that I'm to worried about her aim.....

Then it starts to depend on your budget and your preferences. There are tons of all metal 9mm pistols available used, and plenty of polymer frame pistols as well.Ok ok before I get beat down more; it will be for home defense and target shooting. I have ideas of what I’m looking for.
You have an echelon too correct? I have not seen the mod 3. the price is very attractiveAnd real good. I have one.
That's an oddity. SW are among the most reliable pistols out there (I'm a Glock guy)CZ first recommendation.
Ruger
Glock
Any good 1911
I cannot in good conscience recommend a new SW anything. I have bought two new, both duds. One is the only gun I ever got a full refund on.
Old revolvers and most of the old iron you would be correct. That's an oddity. SW are among the most reliable pistols out there (I'm a Glock guy)
I can't speak for S&W autos as I own and carry revolvers only since retiring from active LEO duty. But I can say without a doubt that S&W quality with regard to their revolvers is abysmal. Pick a category, barrels not clocked straight, fail to fire (with factory ammo), MIM internal parts breaking, finish issues etc. I carried and trusted my life to S&W revolvers (still do, but nothing produced after 1970) and I'd buy a Taurus revolver before buying any Smith. That's an oddity. That's why I mentioned Bodyguard .380ACP.@Pablo @Greenbeforeblue
My comment was related to Semi pistols. I have no experience with the newer revolvers, but I have read about the technical issues users with them.
