You use hand sanitizer when you can't wash your hand with soap and water. Washing is better, way better, than using hand sanitizer in terms of kill rate and for your skin. You don't need to use sanitizer after washing, you can put lotion on instead if you want to keep them moisturized.
I will wash my hands and then use the hand sanitizer when at home, but my work is fairly high risk working in the livery business. 80% of my work involves the airport going to and from. I was experimenting with gloves back in March, but its tough and uncomfortable working the entire time with those gloves on. Hand sanitizer will become a central part of my new routine.
I live in the heart of the most infected part of the world...NYC area. The odds are I will have to spend time with infected individuals in my car at least several times a month. When I get back to work it will be masks, sanitizer, etc as well as a newly installed plexiglass partition. My expectation is to use a lot of the hand sanitizer. I already have placed pump bottles at every sink in my house and let everyone know the expectation is they use it frequently whether after they finish washing their hands or when they are out of the house.
