I live in the heart of the most infected part of the world...NYC area. The odds are I will have to spend time with infected individuals in my car at least several times a month. When I get back to work it will be masks, sanitizer, etc as well as a newly installed plexiglass partition. My expectation is to use a lot of the hand sanitizer. I already have placed pump bottles at every sink in my house and let everyone know the expectation is they use it frequently whether after they finish washing their hands or when they are out of the house.

A good hand sanitizer gel requires only an amount the size of a large pea. Rub your hands vigorously to spread it around especially between the fingers.

Also, would the hospital like to have less employees? if they cannot offer regular PPE, how do they expect employees to come back to work, endangering themselfs and families?


And smell like a drunk? Everyone seems to keep pushing that. It's just not good for your hands. Better off to just carry some soap and a bottle of water.

Vodka is just Ethanol and water.

Hospitals and Veterinarians smell like that anyway.

I you wish you can add a scent of your choice.

Add Some gum thickener and Aloe Vera to add viscosity slow the evap rate.

Don't wipe it off - residence time is critical.

Thanks for the leads so far. not sure my wife would pay for the price of a gallon .

she was surprised how much it cost and how hard it has become to find.

When shortages first started trying to find the clorox wipes was tough but eventually she found some in the local stores .

She bought a couple containers to get through the shortage and left the rest for others.

Appreciate all of the searching , can show her the results and see what she wants to do.

Some great advice and thoughts from the members here , you all are always a great source of information.

I'm not sure where you got the thought that you need to use it after washing with soap and water. Soap and water is better than hand sanitizer and this isn't like the issue with masks where they later changed their mind. No one uses hand sanitizer after washing with soap and water and it was never a recommendation by any medical professional. You should watch them scrub up for surgery, they really wash with soap and water for a long time. You're basically wasting what's in short supply for everyone. You should put a clock next to sink so they know exactly how long 20 seconds is and maybe make them scrub for longer.

In 2-4 weeks this issue will be moot. It seems like a lot of companies are making hand sanitizer now. Everyone is staying at home. I wouldnt go to the store unless its for an emergency reason. Ill take a guess and say on May 1st Walmart will have that $4 bottle of Equate back. I think if it does come back pay the extra cash and go with Purell. Its just easier on the hands and as you get older like me your skin simply doesnt tolerate it too much anymore...

They're starting to show up at the regular stores now. Just ordered some from Walmart. $4 for 34 ounces.

Goes in and out of stock. Just happened to check it one night and it was available. Shipping is April 30th though. Free shipping over $35. Had a few things in my cart in case it became available.

One of our vendors at work got us this stuff. Its pretty nice, doesn't leave my hands feeling like I just cleaned them but they are still dirty. We were joking at work that it probably doesn't work anyway. I am still washing my hands whenever I can though.

If you can wash your hands, that's much better. Hand sanitizer is only a convenience thing when hand washing isn't available.

You basically need when you go out and do things like shopping. I use it just before getting into the car after leaving a store.

There's a lot more threads on slickdeals.net on sanitizer being available and some are saying that they're starting to see it in stores.

Local distilleries are making too, but haven't found one near me that sells it cheap, but they all use the FDA approved formula which is 80% alcohol and it's pretty watery. The 62-70% stuff is more like a gel and what everyone is used to.
