Actually, they know very well that Americans are generous people. They sometimes have issues with the American foreign policy or corporate behavior but they know that in time of disaster, the US will be one of the first to lend a helping hand.

Yes, posting that you gave money is proof of unselfishness.

Cut off all bailout money for auto makers immediately and direct 100% of the money for any and all Haitians that want to come to the USA.

In 5 years they don't like it here in the USA, the ones unhappy will simply pack their bags and head back home.

What so bad about having some extra immigrants in the USA ?

Are you on drugs? Going to a country where they will get free everything, coming from the most impoverished country in the western hemisphere? Will you pay for them?

Both my parents are immigrants so I see the situation differently.

Sad how a post made to motivate people and promote hope degrades into negative comments.

I agree that more work needs to be done to fix Hurricane Katrina damage. But at least those people could go some where and get food, housing and medical treatment.

Yeah, Katrina wasn't our best showing on the domestic front. It was a well forecast event and hence didn't result in much (comparatively speaking) loss of life from the disaster itself.

This is where people find conflict in matters of "others". Catastrophic tragedy brings out the best in many of us. The problem is we need to show that side of us all time but find it difficult without such shocking events taking place. We also differentiate between helpless peoples and "hopeless" peoples.

"Proof" (if you will..) enough that the poster had enough to give whatever they did.. to some that would be more of gift than others, depending on their own circumstances. But I didn't expect everyone to understand that.
