Yep, first time since about 1964 that someone else changed my oil. Reason: Monday I had two skin cancers removed from my upper right arm and the right side of my neck which happens to be the side I lay on under the car when changing the oil. Docs orders, no straining, lifting, pulling, or pushing for 4 weeks. The Focus had 10K so it's OC time. I had a small garage change the M1 0-20 and MC filter I had purchased about 2-3 months ago. He charged me $20 and was done in 15 minutes. I may have to do that with the Fusion as well since it has about 9200 miles now and I plan a short 600 mile trip in two weeks. Will need to change it out when I get back.

Don't complain. You seem like the only one that never lets anyone else change his oil, and when they do it the first time there is a HUGE problem with the shops work. You won the lottery.

Yeah , I bet it was a strange feeling...for the tech changing your oil....since you we're probably watching his every move. LoL

I don't see it as a big deal. Heck, my dad has been taking his tundra to Walmart for the last 100k miles with no issues.....yet.

Were they just BCC's (Basal Cell Carcinomas) tig1, or something more serious? I've had a few BCC's removed over the years.

BTW. I'll bet that the first thing you did after picking up the car from the workshop was to check the oil level. Haha

I had the test done 4 weeks ago and they came back as Melanoma. The surgeon feels like he got them early, but will get the results back next week. The insission on my arm was 3.5in long by 2in wide and 2.5 in x 1.25in wide on my neck so I'm pretty sore right now, and have to be careful not to pull some stiches. I have done some small welding jobs this week including a alum head repair and other things but my wife has done the lifting for me.

Seriously though, next time have the guy pull a sample for a UOA so maybe you can finally extend the OCIs past 10k.

On checking the oil you mentioned, I laughed, as that was the first thing I did. Second, checked the garaged floor for leaks. Just can't help myself.

Probably don't need to remind you not to get any used oil on your skin.

Perhaps you could remind me?

Just finished dismantling an oil pump and took the gloves off after the first couple of minutes.

Dumb or what?

What's funny is the garage owner almost flipped when I told him I change oil every 10K. He said he couldn't sleep at night if he went past 5K. I gave him the 35 year testamony, and he said I must be one of the only guys around doing that long OCI.

Best wishes on a full recovery, tig. The oil change is most definitely secondary. Good for you for following the doc's advice.

As a pale skinned, blue eyed ginger, I feel your pain. I am dreading the day I have to start having spots removed. Grandpa ha spots removed at 57 and Dad started at 50.

Hope you heal fast and that all bad stuff was cut off and gone. I have had skin cancer removed before and am back changing oil and routine work at house. I probably would have changed the oil in my vehicles BEFORE I had the surgery. But I am anal about oil and filters just like you. I hope you get to change your oil many more times in your life. Speedy recovery to you

This!

Some things are more important than oil....

tig, you've had melanoma caught early. There was also someone else's hands on your oil change for the first time in 48 years.

Assuming the results come back clean, you should throw a party.
