Guy living in his car

That is wrong in so many ways. Be it nationality, gender or whatever.

I was denied a city job, 30 years go, because my Wife was City Administrator. All council members agreed, I was best qualified for the job and they all agreed on that. Heated discussion in the meeting. Felt bad for her, but understood their position on neputisim or whatever it is called. Had a job at the time, so no skin off my back. Sucks for you though, GON.
GON was not aware he would be discriminated against because of his age. I don't know how one could know know that-but he didn't. So if you are turned down for an opportunity-over 50 years of age-it will be the excuse du jour. Anything but your age.

I agree with the age thing, might make a difference. At my age, I would not hire me either! :p

Same goes for a person 60+ year old, applying for a 30 year loan on a new house.
How will that pan out? Better have good life insurance. But I guess the lender's can't take that into consideration, but bet your backside that they will.

There is an act. I applied for a position last month that I met the requirements for- this was the response I received:

By law, Indian Preference candidates are entitled to consideration for employment before other applicants. There were sufficient Indian Preference candidates for this vacancy; therefore, your application was not considered.
There are plenty of candidates who meet requirements in current job market. Challenge is rising to top and it might not be best qualified ever, smartest or hardest working.

They will take in to consideration total assets and other factors. By law-in most states debts have to be settled by the estate at time of death. I just took out a truck loan-could have paid cash, but didn't. I'm 67-FICO over 800. Unlike a home (these days) a truck is not an appreciating asset.

I don't plan on leaving my children ridden with debt. If I can't pay cash, it's a no go and easier for them. We all do our own things.
I cast no judgments on either way.

OK, cool, so work hard and save for retirement... save a million bucks.

What does that get you? The nursing home could take it all if one unlucky thing hits you just right.

People are afraid that inflation will wipe out what they saved when there's a far more capricious bogeyman.

Why should people play this capitalism game?

We are the only nation in the developed world not to have some sort of national healthcare system. We are among the very few who lack free university education where not everyone qualifies to attend. We are among the few without some form of subsidized child care.
We do little to enable the talented and ambitious poor in advancing their lives and livelihoods and we then bemoan their lack of drive.
If we can do more to help the poor advance into decent paying careers we'd also help ourselves by bringing more taxpaying citizens into the fold and allowing these people to contribute to our GDP.
Most of us knew relative penury in our early adulthood and advanced to the point of owning a home, buying new cars and taking extravagant vacations.
Let's all remember where we came from and try to help those left behind to enjoy better lives through work.
We've worked for what we have. Shouldn't we try to help those left behind to work to enjoy better lives while contributing to tax take and GDP in the process?

Wow, I can't concur with your post.

Nobody is denied healthcare in the US- NOBODY. Cross the border from Mexico tonight without authorization, and have a heart attack and require open heart surgery, the alien will have the procedure done same day in the US, for no charge. A German citizen, with nationalized healthcare needs the same procedure in Germany, might have to wait six months for the surgery.
The US has the most expensive healthcare in the world. Want to "fix" US healthcare- the focus needs to be on the healthcare lobbyists and restraint of trade.

Education- there has never been better time than today, right now to get an advanced education to include a university, or a trade school, that is paid for by the US taxpayers. Maybe the issue is the messages being sent to young people on Tik Tok, etc.

The US is a flawed and imperfect nation, but still the greatest nation in the world to start with nothing and end up with wealth. There is a reason that people from all over the world, from every corner of the world, dream of coming to the US- to get a shot at a full life. I wonder why I never hear this message on PBS/CBS/NBC/ABS, tik tok, youtube, instrgram?
I would be willing to bet there may even be some hate filled , brainwashed young men who illegally entered the USA to do some type of terror went and changed their minds. Once they got here and got all the freebies the USA is now giving out to anyone who can jump across the boarders..... They likely said.... "wow, why do that stuff when we can live like Kings compared to the heck holes we came out of?" *******THIS IS NOT POLITICAL******

If your assets outnumber your debt-it's not your kids who will inherit it-it will be paid for-by the administrator of the estate.
If I buy another new trucks three days before I die-and they have to pay it off-there will be plenty to pay off the loan and then some.

Because it's better than the communist game?

Really seriously, work gets you a nice life. AND yes we have some nasty bogeymen. Inflation is just one.

Guess I was unclear on my message. I meant that my Daughter is executor of my estate. One less check for her to write when I am gone.

No, if anyone doesn't like a given line of policy they can always vote for a candidate having policy positions closer to their own.
This is America, after all.

There are many lower wage employees including some you may well have in your own organization who can barely survive on their earned income even in a fairly low cost state like Ohio. There is a shortage of rental units which has served to drive up rents. The inescapable reality is that we want and need people willing to work in low wage jobs but for many of them the expression "the math ain't mathin'" applies.
Not entirely sure what the solution might be but those of us fortunate enough to be pretty well set should refrain from denigrating those who aren't.
The cost of rental units is demand, cost of ownership and property taxes, all are skyrocketing. I was taught if you don't make enough money learn things that will improve your value to your current company or to another company that will pay you more. For example Bezos did not become wealthy working at Taco Bell and comming home and watching the Tv and drinking beers and smoking joints with his besties. I do not consider myself that smart but because of family and friends with awesome parents I am OK. If Ican do OK so can most any one else.

This is a perfect example of what happens when you try to take minimum wage, (that was meant to allow teen agers to make a few extra bucks in their spare time), and attempt to make it a, "living wage".

You end up with the highest paid unskilled and unemployed workers in the country. The only thing that's funny about this, is the fact the bulk of them thought it was an, "April Fool's joke". And were actually surprised they got canned.

Perhaps they thought the owner could simply print money like the government.

I got a kick out of the clueless (social justice imitating) female reporter who acts as if she has some legitimate crime to hold the poor owner's feet to the fire over! The poor owner was forced out of his own business. By who? Mis-guided clowns who always think they know what is better for OTHERS. YET they never seem to suffer the disasters they set off to implode upon innocent people who get caught in the aim of those idiots drunk with any hint of power they have.

You will see by the end of the year, these franchise owners will start closing their dining rooms and will only have the drive thru open. They will only have a skeleton staff also. But hey, those 10 employees now are making $20.00 a hour, but just last year the 40 employees were making $15.00 a hour.
