I bought two kinds. One that foamed and one that didn't. I like the foaming kind better. It seemed to soak the "gunk" a little longer. It worked fairly well. I also used a spray attachment using my air compressor to blast the "gunk" off.

Check out this thread for some answers to your question.

I've used these 5 minute solvent flushes occasionally before and their effectiveness may be psychological, I don't know. I figure their light solvent properties must dissolve at least some of the varnish and other oil by-products that are in the engine. I have no data to prove it, though. I've not experienced any problems with their use either.

The general consensus on this board however is not to use these types of flushes because they are considered somewhat aggressive but if you want to do so anyway, it should be safe.

I used it a while back, didn't notice a difference. After hearing about it on this site, I wouldn't use it again.

Do a search on engine flushes. Basically they are just kerosene, diesel or stodard solution(much like kerosene). They tend to break crud off in harmful large chunks that can plug oil passages and are hard on seals.

Ya, stay away from flushes. Instead, run auto-rx. It will safely do the same thing, and more. And it will do so slowly and safely!

im not trying to be difficult or anyhting but what is the difference in cleaning the engine slow or using the gunk and doing a 5 minute cleaning?

screw gunk! I used it years ago on an abused old caddy engine and sure enough, next morning POOF blue smoke... never smoked anything before i did the 5 min flush!
