I just got a good deal at AA for 19.95. 5 Quarts Castrol GTX Syn Blend and a Pure 1 filter. I bought the deal. The bottle of GTX Syn Blend says "formerly Syntec Blend"
So I ask this.....Was Syntec Blend a decent oil? I know Castrol isn't really popular here due to the price. But I think that refers to their conventional Oil.

I ran it for 1300 miles in my Corolla and had to change to a full synthetic. I noticed on cold starts my engine "chattered" more with the Castrol synthetic blend. I wasn't very impressed with it just based on the sound of the engine; I didn't run an analysis to see how it was wearing though.

I've used it when I first had my Corolla and the used oil analysis were good. MPG same as with GTX and Syntec.

I'd not go out and pay the extra for it over GTX (which is a excellent oil)

Use it with no worries.

Bill

GTX is a fine oil, and I heard nothing bad about the blend. If it were priced more reasonable it would be a better purchase. Most blends are expensive, except Motorcraft, which is a steal if I ever saw one.

Bill...do I see you added another car to your fleet? 98 Contour or has that been there the whole time? Hmmmm

New to the "fleet" for the 17 yr old Daughter.

yes. I get the same mpg using conventional or synthetic Castrol gtx. synthetic oil doesn't improve mpg.

My favorite motor oil is castrol.
