Is a synthetic oil such as Castrol SynBlend the same as just using a quart of Syntec and 4 qts of GTX for a 5 qt oil change? What I am really asking is how much of a bottle of SynBlend is Syn?
Geo, keep in mind that even if it's only 5% syn, they can still call it a blend. Right now I'm running my own blend of 3 quarts conventional and 3 quarts full syn, that's the only way I'm aware of to know the ratio of syn to conventional in a blend.
I don't understand what the point of running your own blend of conventional and synthetic. What are you trying to gain? extended drain interval? or something else?
btw, I'm not challenging or criticizing this idea, I am just wondering what the reasoning is

I used to blend syn/conventional(same mfgr) before blends hit the market. My reasoning was that I wanted some of the syn. benefits over a relatively short OCI without emptying my wallet. Plus, if you blend it yourself...you take guessing out of the mixing ratio.
