Oh for all those people that think information in books is so infalable my Health Class text book in H.S. clearly said that smokeing was not chemicaly addictive and that while not good for ones health had no link to increased risk of cancer of any type. I was in H.S. 1988-1992 so you tell me how sound that information was. Never mind that on the next page was a set of lungs pulled out of a life long smoker that were as black a road tar.

Why would the original poster want to run anything other than 5w20? It's the recommended weight. It will flow fine in cold weather. What weight would be better? Why would it be better?

Wow we would make all kinds of advancements in science if applied your logic to all walks of life!!!

Quote "Use the oil weight that the manufacture recommends to use. My engine is spec for 5W20 so that is what I use. If the manufacture recommended 5W30 that is what I would use. This is not that complicated."

Heck with recommendations like that we might as well stop writing new books all together since everything you need to know is already written. Why even bother to come to a Oil fanatic site if you are going to make such remarks? You might as well go to a cooking site and tell them all to just follow the recipe or better yet tell them all they need is salt and pepper and nothing else!I guess all women are the same two so we should just read one book and then we can say we know all women. Maybe I am over reacting but people that just want tell people to read the book are in my opinion a hindrance and of no help to anyone! How stupid do you think people are that they can hook up a computer and get online but are too stupid to read the owners manual or the oil cap?

Independent thought, critical thinking, finding what is ideal for each user's driving cycle and environment is what makes this site rock!Anything less then that is violation of the whole intent of this site!

What is the point of posting such useless information as "What does the owners manual call for?". Lets not put or reputations on the line lets just go with a sure thing to meet the lowest common denominator.

I read your post and agree with the concept of that no advancements would be made without research and taking chances. I could be wrong but I think the engineers that design an engine would know more then I do, but maybe not the the majority of members of this forum. I believe research is fine in a control situation when you have an idea on what the outcome might be or you hope it to be. Yes I believe in playing it self because I have seen many tragedies occurred because safe guidelines were not followed. I am not here to argue with other members and I have read several of your post and they seem to come from a very intelligent individual. I would not call a person stupid because they have not read the owners manual on their car. I see questions ask by forum members (not this forum) all the time on information about their car that's inside the owners manual if they looked.

I understand. I was asking mainly for myself. I have a 2007 camry 4cyl. as well. I was just curious why one would not run what was recommended for the camry. I can see how in some applications there may be better alternatives to running a different weight oil due to climate, mileage, driving conditions, etc. In the case of a new camry I just don't see the benefit. JohnBrowning made it sound as if there may be a better choice for the camry and I was curious as to what weight and why. No offense or anything intended towards anyone. Just truely wondering.
