I have run into several people who have problems with groupon, and so do I. What do you folks find? I have tried two gun store / ranges locally (Point Blank and Parabellum) and they both say you are required to go through Groupon, which doesn't work. Among other things I keep changing my zip to 46214 West Indy, and groupon keeps selling me Ft. Wayne locations, 75 miles away. I'm trying to get 1 boy (12?) and 3 adults a gun safety class and then (seperately) a few weeks down the road an hour or 2 of weapons and firing. I haven't fired in 5+ years, the other 3 never. Don't think it hurts for anyone to learn a little about guns for many reasons, but this is frustrating me. Over $200 to spend as a gift, can do during the week, nothing weird. Groupon or else, so far.

Funny you posted this, we currently have a service company that has screwed up 3 times in showing up to fulfill our Groupon and I am getting ready to file a complaint.

I use groupon all the time for restaurants-and have never had an issue. I haven't used them for services-although I hear if you do prepare for the restrictions and upsell.

Groupon is a marketing thing hoping to hook you into a service you will later then pay full price for.

Restaurants love the service because it gets new people in the door.

You may want to let the manager know that groupon is busted. They may have sold out of all 50 gift cards or whatever.

I have purchased Groupons in the past for restaurants who refused to honor it for various reasons. Last one was a pizza place downtown Louisville called Luigi's. Place closed at 3pm and it was 1:30. They told me they were getting ready to close and could not honor my groupon as their stoves were now cooling off. Never did get to use it as I tried another time and don't even remember their reason that time. It has expired and they never got my business. I no longer use Groupon either as the deals are not what they used to be.

Restaurants do not love groupon. It's a sign of desperation that they have to offer a groupon. As far as the business model, no it's not good either. People who buy groupons don't come back to pay full price. A) they are frugal folks by nature that they do their shopping on groupon. B) Once they know they were able to get something at 50% off, no way a frugal person is going to pay double for the same thing in the future.

If you do buy a groupon for a successful business or something that requires a reservation, expect poor service because a thousand other people also are cashing in their groupons.

At the same point, you also shouldn't complain because you are participating in the race to the bottom. (see discount airlines, and budget car rentals)

Unless you get enjoyment in cashing a good deal for the sake of a deal, you typically will be more satisfied if you don't participate in the race to the bottom and you paid a fair price for a fair restaurant or good service.
