My trash company missed me two weeks in a row. I called a new to me company and signed up and they gave me the Senior discount and saved me $45 a quarter...

Said he was bringing the can out Wednesday and if I put out the other companies can they would empty it for me...no charge....

So I was getting some UPS packages ready to ship and that took 20 minutes and I go out to the car and here comes the new trashcan already... geez talk about service..

You have a choice? Here you are stuck with whoever services your area. Same with the water truck.
Yes lucky I guess.... my old company I heard sold out and the service went down the tubes.

I love my trash man. I give him good tips $60-100, June and December, and I leave him a Gatorade on top of the container every week. When fall comes around and I have 10-20 bags of leaves and such….

You're a good bloke 👍

That’s interesting that you can pick your trash service. Everywhere I’ve ever lived, there was only one option.

Even in this rural area I found 8 active companies

I also live in a city where we have to choose our own garbage co. I just checked, and there are 8 companies that are licensed to operate in my city.

A few other nearby cities contract with one or a handful of companies that divvy up different parts of the city. The big city near me (Minneapolis) owns their own garbage trucks.

Personally, I find it kind of annoying how many garbage trucks race up and down the neighborhoods on trash day (which the city picks out by area, for example my neighborhood is mandated to be Mondays). Many of my neighbors like the choice and the competition, but I'd be OK if the city just figured it out for us.

We have one choice at my location, they bid with the city to get the contract but if they suck they will get the boot. Happened once since I have been here, current outfit is great.

Plenty of bidders so they are motivated to do it right.

I’m glad only one, we are already over run with Amazon, Fed Ex and UPS trucks.

Living in an exclusive area like you do has its perks....

Ours is provided 2X per week, by the township (here's where you see tiny homes like ours with 7 44 gal containers lined up at the curb (I know it'd be yet another added duty but collectors ought to be able to cite addresses that are throwing out commercial trash). Another funny is when a home has 2-3 township recycle bins which if they purchased them they'd cost a gazillion dollars (likely someone elses who didn't mark them). Funny how trash can be a discussion in itself.

The city where I live takes care of the trash. However another city not too far from me it's a free-for-all as four different trash companies pick up. Some neighborhoods have trash trucks coming down their street four days a week.

Large trash corporations like Waste Management and Republic are buying the local and regional players up. Some municipalities run their own service and some farm it out.

We have two in our area, but our taxes also include compactor sites around the county. We had lots of missed pickups and at one point it was weeks in a row, a house in my neighborhood had their bags dragged across the yard by vultures because they were overflowing and left out. You'd drive around and see overflowing cans everywhere. You'd call the next week when they missed again and they'd have no record of the previous call.

After that we cancelled and just started taking the trash to the closest compactor once or twice a week, a bonus is they have recycling and waste oil disposal included so it is a one stop shop. We've never looked back and already paid for it, so much easier and no hassle paying a company and having to chase them to do their job.

This is true. I mentioned there is a choice of 8 garbage companies in my city (that are listed on my city's web page). I'm pretty sure a few of those have combined since the last time the website was updated.

I've had the same company for about 20 years. They've changed their name 3 or 4 times since then. My garbage can still says "BFI" on it, but it's been a looong time since it's been called that.
