Great coaches

I was wondering when Walsh would show up. Sure he had talent, but he was sharp

Bill Walsh revolutionized the game in the NFL...

He took the passing game to another level because he understood timing, difficulty in one on one tackling in the open field, and giving his players the ability to change their routes on the fly based upon what they saw as the play developed.

And he does not get enough credit for changing the 49ers defense into a very strong unit .. . His draft of secondary players like Ronnie Lott and others in that ONE draft.... Made that 49er team a Super Bowl champion. The 49ers played very tough physical defense that hit opposing wide receivers as soon as they caught the ball. The linebacker play and defensive front were no slouches either. In the 1984-85 Super Bowl winning season the 49ers only gave up 224 points. The 85-86 Chicago Bears gave up 198. That's pretty darn close if one thinkks about that. And the 49ers scored 477 and the Bears 454. So the "dominance" factor in reality both those teams were actually really close to each other. Of course both teams went 18-1 as well.

Tom Flores.

True in my opinion ^^^^

Tom Flores took over a very talented Raiders team and he added 2 more Super Bowl wins 27-10 over the Eagles and a shocking 38-9 win over the Redskins. Tom is underrated in my opinion because he gets forgotten about.

Jim Plunkett was the starting QB and he had 9 shoulder surgeries prior to coming to the Raiders. Jim played quite well in the win over the Eagles and threw 3 TDS with no ints in that win. Of course the win over the Redskins was Marcus Allen rushing for 190 yds and a couple of touchdowns.

If the Raiders had a healthy and good QB in the next couple of seasons after the win against the Redskins... They had a team capable of winning another SB. Marc Wilson was not that guy.

Here's an up-and-comer in the college ranks, Lance Leipold at Kansas. He turned the football program around at NYU-Buffalo and appears to be doing the same thing for the Jayhawks. The teams he coached at his alma mater, Wisconsin-Whitewater, were 109-6 from 2006-2014, with six Division III NCAA championships and one runner-up berth. Here's his Wikipedia page.

Three words, "West Coast Offense", of course it didn't hurt to have these guys.

Everyone knows the name of the offense... Of course I know it... :)

But what mattered was the imagination, knowledge, and insights BEHIND that offense.

That's what made Bill Walsh tremendous.

It was the understanding of timing, difficulty of tackling guys one on one in the open field, the ability of the guys like Solomon and Dwight to change their routes on the fly according to defense they saw being played.

And those players.....

Were drafted... By Bill Walsh and his staff....

Look at the secondary players drafted along with Ronnie Lott.... Those guys made that team a Super Bowl contender right away.

And to be candid...
Look back the drafts by the Steelers I'm the late 60s through the 1970s... Look at the Chicago Bears drafts in the early to mid 1980s.... The Dallas Cowboys of the late 1980s into the early 1990s.

There's a reason why those teams became what they became. Extremely good / fortunate draft picks that turned out.
