Can't believe I didn't start using k&n a long time ago. Filter is not very accessible, and it's always too tight to unscrew by hand.
Do any of you use k&n just for the nut?

nope, if you have the proper socket for your filter, with teh right amount of flutes, there is no need for the nut.
I'll admit one of the features I like,is the 1-inch nut

K&N's got nuts, Pure Ones don't.

But as said above, an oil filter cap wrench works well for me if hot engine/filter expansion makes hand removal difficult.

The nut is a big help on my motorcycle. Not so on my cars/trucks.

I used to get the pure ones just because of the grip feature. Then I found out that just using a blue scott towel on a regular filter works as good or better.

I'll compare that filter to the Pure One any day since i use both the Xtended Guard and the Pure One filters. Just because it's a Fram, don't assume it's the orange can.
Back to the original topic, i use the plyers style wrench to take off my filter. It works great on just about any filter.

Is it important and pertinent to the discussion of getting the filter off? No.
And the only Fram that you can even come close to comparing to a Pure One is the Extended Guard, and it hasn't been around near as long as the Pure One. It efficiency doesn't match Pure One and it's more expensive than Pure One at ~$8 bucks at Wally. At least it's clear what your real issue is with my post that wasn't responding to you.

Gloves are great unless you can't reach the filter with your hands which is becoming more common now days. A good filter wrench cap or strap wrench is the only way to fly.

I've been using a pair of rubber gloves for years. They lose texture after awhile, so I just spray a *tiny* amount of expanding foam on them, which makes them a little sticky but gives quite a bit of textured grip.
Instead of buying filters with the grippy texture.... I bought a pair of gloves with the rubberized grippy texture on the palms.
Those gloves fit all of the filters perfectly....

I use gloves that are almost identical to those, except different color. They have a rubber grippy material on the end which is perfect for getting oil filters loose.

A 1987 Nissan Hardbody V6 came in for an oil change once and the filter on it was a K&N. The stupid location of the filter made the K&N nut a necessity.
Having a glove or pliers isn't very helpful with most of the filter hidden behind a shroud, and right next to the frame rail.
