Thought I'd give you guys a quick overview of the 3M Performance Finish I recently used on my truck. I got several sachets of this stuff at the 3M sponsored NASCAR race at Michigan. 3M is touting this stuff as a very durable and long term wax replacement. Overall I've found 3M's paint/automotive products to be very good. So far I can say if the durability holds up very well it will be worth the effort to use it as the water beading of this stuff is far better than anything I've ever seen.

What I mean by the effort is compared to the Nanowax I've been using, but that stuff is almost rediculously easy to apply and buff off. However, I've been looking for something more durable. I did learn the hard way that this stuff doesn't like a warm surface at all and you definitely have to do it by small areas at a time. Otherwise the haze will definitely show up in the right light and viewing angle. Seems like this could be a replacement for the other more expensive synthetic sealants at a much better cost. See it at the link: http://www.3mestore.com/3m-performance-finish.html

It says right on the bottle it contains silicone oil. One trait of silicone is that it is only semi durable, if you want true durabilty go to an acryllic like klasse or polymer like Zaino.

Does it say silicone oils or silicone polymers..big difference...silicone oils are in tire dressings...polymers are in sealants..the polymers actually harden to a clear shell ..the oils just remain as oils on tires...thats why they sling...

I bought a bottle of it and can testify that no matter how thin you apply it, it's still a ---- to wipe off. I've used it once, and it's sitting un-used now. Black Magic carnauba has won my heart.

Agree it's a pain to wipe off, BUT if the durability holds up it's worth the effort to me because the other normally applied waxes I've used don't last very long. So far this stuff looks way better than the OTC waxes I've been using.

BTW, I still use Eagle One Nanowax on some other cars because it seems to work fairly well and is sooo easy to use. Another plus for it is it doesn't stain black plastic trim (the 3M stuff doesn't either).

CBD, you didn't like the Mother's Synwax?

It just didn't last very long for me. The middle of summer is a b*tch of a time to apply wax in Texas...you literally sweat your *ss off, so it's not something you want to do and end up with less than stellar results.

The Black Magic carnauba paste I'm using now outlasts Synwax by a long way. I use water beading as one measurement of longevity. Synwax didn't perform for me.

Synwax didnt last. Now that I think about it, Performance Finish didn't seem to either. It's strange to me considering my car has been getting it's weekly (sometimes twice weekly) wash jobs in the driveway using Meguiars Gold Class car wash, so it's not like I'm using some caustic wax-stripping soaps, but neither of these seemed to bead water very long. I know that's not the only way to measure a wax's longevity, but it's the most obvious way to see degradation. However, I'm seeing much more longevity from the Black Magic carnauba.

Badbrad, I traded the Frontier this past April on a Mazdaspeed6. I haven't been to Club Frontier in ages. Great place though...everyone was very nice.
