Got A New Clear Bra Installed On The Prius

Seems I notice more people complaining about rock chips who own Toyota, Honda, and Mazda products.

Are these imports using thinner paints/different paint processes, or do their owners just pay more attention to the paint?

You can't read a Scion owner review of their vehicle where they don't complain about rock chips, regardless of model.

I think it varies by model. For example, I thought the paint on my '07 Corolla was pretty "thin". You read a lot of comments similar to that on the Corolla. However, I was happy with the paint on my '11 Camry; it seemed to be more durable, and you didn't hear of as many issues with it.

No problems with the paint on our Acura or Honda. I haven't read of any large-scale complaints either.

The "thin paint" problems I've read about are mainly on the less expensive Toyotas.

I wonder why you get so many rock chips. Even on cars I've owned that have been fairly low to the ground, I might need to dab a chip with touch-up paint a few times a year, if that. Maybe the SUVs being higher up don't tend to get them as bad, I don't know. Sounds like you live in a particularly stone-prone area.

Down here in the jungle all the construction trucks come out of South Miami and go all the way up to Palm Beach everyday on I-95 and the Turnpike dropping concrete along the way all over the road..As you pass one it will be raining concrete all over your car..I have a ton of chips to prove it.

Priorities are perplexing sometimes.

Agreed. For the amount of money that was spent dinking around with the Saran wrap, the front of the car could have been painted a couple of times.

And in all honesty, it's a Prius-it's not as though it's something unique or highly valuable. It's a complete waste of money on a car that's designed to save the owner money.

+1

Your NEVER going to recover your costs when you go to sell/trade in.

No offense Critic. But it's pointless!!!

Exactly.

And I don't know why all of you take respraying so lightly. It's quite difficult to find a body shop that will spray a car to my standards (well, maybe that's the problem), and resprayed paint is never as durable and you will take the depreciation hit.

The other reason is so at the end of the film's lifetime it's all wasted while the underlying paint is clean. I really wish we had gone with a clear bra on the Fit's hood. The rock dings on there are something awful to see. A good clear bra would have helped out quite a bit.
