Looking to replace the Michelin MXV4 Plus (225/60VR-16) tires on my Grand Marquis, and I've been researching all the different brands. Mostly looked at Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, Kumho and Yokohama. Unfortunately, BFGoodrich only comes in SUV sizes and General tires are no longer available.

I had a look at the Goodyear Assurance today and it seems to be a decent tire for the price (about $68 per tire) compared to the others. The DuPont Kevlar and Durawall technology also seems interesting.

It doesn't seem to list the tire in my size on the website for some reason, but it has a 98 load rating and a V speed rating. I thought it was American, but turns out it was manufactured in Indonesia. Then again, I suppose that's how the price is competitive. Most of the other brands had an H speed rating, although I want to stick with the specifications that the vehicle was originally equipped with.

Tried looking it up on Tire Rack, and the Assurance tire on there seems to be different?

The tread pattern doesn't match the one I was looking at. Does anybody happen to have any experience with this particular tire by any chance? Thanks!

I have no personal experience with the Assurance.
In taxi circles around here Yokohama Avid TRZ along with the older Yokohama Y520 are the champions on the Panthers. I read about weak sidewalls on Pirelli P4, yet personally had very good luck with those - they seem to be an excellent fit for heavier vehicles.
If you want a posh ride, go for Toyo Versado, but they are expensive and expect their treadwear to be 3/4 of what they claim. They come in different speed ratings, and there are 2 types of treadwear warranties on those, depending on the rating.
I use them on Town Cars.

I have Yokohama AVID Touring-S 225/60-16 on '94 LS400. I like it for quiet-soft ride, performance on dry and wet roads are acceptable for a S-rate tire. If you like H-rate or higher then Yokohama AVID ENVigor is a good choice. If you can get Hankook Optimo H727 in Kuwait, another very good T-rate tire with reasonable price.

Falcon LS==There are 3 distinct "Assurance" Goodyear tires. 1.Assurance Comfortred, 2 Assurance Fuelmax, and Assurance Tripletred.( Spelling is Goodyears, not mine). Any of these are available for your Merc. Don't know if Goodyear exports all 3 to Kuwait however. I have helped my son in law purchase Yokohama Avid TRZ tires for his Pontiac Torrent. They have about 20k miles and hardly look worn. The Yokohama avid Envigor's are on my daughters Mazda3 and have not had any problems. You have already checked with the TIRE RACK web site and you can get test results etc. from them. FWIW--Oldtommy

I had the GA Comfort Treads and the GA Comfort Tread Tourings. I would prefer the Tourings on your car. Better handling than the other Goodyears.

I had the Assurance TripleTred put on the Camry a few years ago that my son drives. They been a good tire. Not the quietest, but the wet traction beat the Big-O tires we tried.
They are directional on rotation.

Thanks a lot for all the input!

I went to look at Yokohama again, and the AVID TRZ is available. They are a bit pricier than the Michelin MXV4 Plus and Pirelli P4 All-Seasons at $140 per tire, but if based on the reviews here I reckon they must be really good!

Hankook is imported by the same company who imports Goodyear and Continental. They no longer import the Optimo H727, but they have the Optimo H418 (99T rating) for the same price as the Goodyear. The Continental ContiProContact goes for $172 a tire.

As far as Goodyear is concerned, only one Assurance tire is available. Maybe the Assurance ComforTred, FuelMax and TripleTred are North America-only products?

They also have the Eagle GT, but I haven't looked at the specifications yet.
