I paid good money for Mobil 1 synthetic NLGI 2 (red). I greased all the balls (on the car) with it. I put the grease gun on the shelf and walked away.

Four months later I picked up the grease gun. It was dripping red oily blood. The grease in the tube looked grainy and sort of dry. It was smooth, overly sticky, but not especially slick, in my fingers.

Next, I popped the top off the Mystik JT-6 that I bought 5 days after the Mobil 1. It looked perfect. No bleeding. Shiny. Sticky, but silky smooth and super slick.

Also, I noticed that the joints I had greased with Mobil 1 four months ago were kind of deflated. Not cool.

Needless to say, I ditched the Mobil 1, popped the Mystik into my gun, and pumped up all the joints with that lovely JT-6.

P.S. Mystik JT-6 No.2 with 3% Moly

my friend.

Yeah as discussed before the oil in the Mobil grease separates from the soap under constant pressure. Found the similar pool of blood you mentioned under my gun also.

I've had the general purpose Mystik in there for a few months and have also noted no separation.

Always Moly fortified for chassis use anyway.

for some reason the M1 does that it must not have a very good reversibility rating id say.

I was surprised by the bleeding because I made a point of relieving the pressure from the grease before I set the gun down.

If the grease comes out of the soap that easily when sitting in the tube, what is happening in the ball joints that hold my car on the road?

Now that's interesting. Most folks I hear that have this problem only do so when they leave the pressure on the grease gun... and yours separated while under only ambient pressure?

I had the same problem with Mobil 1 red grease. I threw it away.

FWIW, Mobil's aviation greases do the exact same thing. I don't know why or whether it's something to be worried about but it certainly is messy.

I've had CAT Desert Gold in my gun for a few months now with no bleeding at all. And that is through the hot summer. I'm really liking this grease.
