Good replacement for Royal Purple (non-M1)?

I am currently running Royal Purple 10w30 in my high mileage lifted Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ the 5.2 V8.

Getting ready to drive from San Diego to Moab, UT for a week of 4-wheeling. I need to change the oil, but I have since learned that Royal Purple shears easily and is overpriced (based on the forum consensus). What is a good replacement for RP besides Mobil 1? I like the Royal Purple because my engine does not consume as much of it when compared to M1.

How about MaxLife Synthetic? Anyone?

If you`re having good performance with RP,I`d just stick with it. I`ve always been a hard core M1 fan,but RP 15W40 runs really well in my car,so with me,it`s a toss up between the two.

I'm all for Maxlife Synthetic, but I bet you would get along just fine with regular Maxlife Blend in that thing.

Also, consider Amsoil.

I'd say Castrol since you aren't interested in M1.

That RP 10w30 does NOT have shearing problems. Run whatever oil you feel comfortable with and be happy.

I'm going to recommend M1 anyway. I get good results in my Dodge 4.7 with it.

There was a lot of traffic on this site this year regarding whether M1 still is PAO. Not sure it was ever resolved, but with Amsoil you can be sure of getting PAO. The site reps here will tell you which Amsoil oils are PAO.
