Good oil plan?

Saturn Vue FWD6... 3.5L Honda V6 - Specs 5w-20.

Here's my plan for a good break-in, and switch to synthetic. Please approve or give ideas, as I want the best for this new engine

My 'break-in' comprised of some full throttle passes up a very steep hill @ 000007 miles, and some dead stop launches.

Procedure:
Drain factory fill @ 2500

Change oil to Exxon Superflo 5w-20, and run til 5000. Send in oil analysis on this oil after 2500 miles.

Switch to Mobil 1 5w-20

I know that people say to keep the honda factory fill in longer than usual, and I think 2500 is reasonable. I'd be switching to exxon superflo because it has been said to be basically the same oil as the factory fill, minus a little moly. (but still high in it)

Any suggestions welcomed!

I would also downshift a gear or two once in awhile. This also helps in breaking in the piston rings.

You have a good plan. Id recommend adding some Valvoline Synpower to your oil and boost the moly back up while doing the breakin. Id also recommend looking at the SX-UP by Specialty Formulations. I havent used it but it looks like it might be a good booster for breakin. I need to call up Molakule one of these days and ask him about it. Id trust most anything made by Molakule. In the meantime the Valvoline Synpower should give you some of the breakin additives that the factory fill oil came with in the beginning.

Just got done changing my Dads Vue (2005 AWD 3.5 V6) @ 750 miles and both of us are GLAD we did.

The car was built in Sept 2004, So the oil had been in there for at least 6 months and for only 750 miles it looked wasted. Lots of colors (like AL) in it and for the cost of a jug of Pennzoil 5w-20 and filter, well worth it IMHO.

We are going to change it at 3k and 6k then decide what to run. Prob for him Mobil DC 7500 in 5k or 6month OCIs.. or Mobil 1 @ 1 year OCI. (he does not drive alot. Has a 2002 Chev truck with 10k miles!

What he means by downshift is decelerate while in gear without using the brakes. From what I understand, that's also a very important part of break in.

I engine brake going down hills all the time. Got that covered then
