NUB forum, love all the information. I have a 2006 Dodge Charger, 5.7L. I just changed the factory fill, as it had just reached 2500 miles. Changed with 5W-20 RP. My question is does anyone know what type of oil was the factory fill, conventional or synthetic. I heard synthetic blend.

Although there has been some evidence that one or two manufacturers use special oil at the factory, I find it hard to believe that anything other than the absolute cheapest oil is used. Think for a second how much oil the manufacturers have to buy. With the current state of affairs in the auto industry, it would not make finiancial sense to use anything but the cheapest.
Having said that, someone here will diagree but the truth is no one will know. Your best bet would have been to send a sample in for analysis. Having done that, you could have made a guess on viscosity and if you posted the results here, you could have had some good guesses as to brand.
I sent a factory fill to Blackstone once and asked them if they could identify the make and they replied, "...appears to be a Citgo product...".

Not proof of content for every automaker, but ExxonMobil is reputed to be the largest supplier of bulk motor oil to automakers in the U.S. Probably a fully formulated, conventional SM/GF-4 blend pumped into holding tanks from a rail car. Nippon Oil now has a blending facility in Alabama that supplies Hyundai, Toyota, and Honda factories in the U.S.
Do they supply Honda with their super fantastic, special, super duper, moly-saturated ff oil, too?
