Interesting...I wonder if AO Smith makes a "basic" grade model with copper elements exclusively for Lowe's? I looked throughout the owner's manual for the 40 gallon model I purchased at Lowe's last week and it does not disclose whether it is copper or stainless steel. If you are so inclined, you can call AO Smith technical support at 1-877-817-6750 to find out.

I have a 12 year old AO Smith Hybrid water heater. I did have to repair one relay (contactor) but other than that, the thing is holding up very well. Worth every penny. Keeps the garage air conditioned, and 80 gallons is enough to run all 6 showerheads.

The interesting thing is that my electric bill went down when I installed it. I had a window AC unit in the garage and a propane water heater. The AO Smith hybrid uses less power than the window shaker! And I no longer use stupid amounts of $7/gal propane.

Guys I went to my local store and got a Richmond. Was the cheapest and supported my local store. Thanks for everyone's input.
