Going to work SICK

I'm ****** off right now. The guy I car pool with had bronchitis. He took 2 days off, but still wasn't better. So he comes to work and is running a fever and coughing up a storm. Well now I'm sick.

What is with these people? Stay the h@ll home if your sick! I don't want it! God **** . We only have to have a Dr's note if your out more than 3 days. I feel like shiite. My wife said men are big babies though when sick. She is probably right.

True story, EVERYTIME I tell people that I've been doing good and havn't been sick in over a year, I get sick. You would think I would learn to shut up.

At least I'll be better by March 2nd, when I'm off to New Orleans and Texas with the wife. Yeehaaww.

I am semi-retired, working out of the home, not a lot of visitors in and out. No, not living like a hermit, but certainly run into fewer people on a face to face basis than I used to.

I have never been more free of communicable disease! I used to get two or more colds per year, which would often progress to bronchitis and serious sinus issues. I have had no colds at all since a mild one last winter before I used home humidification.

At this location, in winter the outside air is cold and dry. For example, right now, the dew point outside is -7F, which is dryer than the Sahara desert. Dry heated air is not good for the respiratory system. I have some humidifiers in the house in winter, and try to keep the relative humidity at least up to 30%.

it's really getting to be an issue.

Our employer is trying to reduce the amount of sick leave that people take. 1 year without leave, $100 dinner for two (every year). 5 years, and it's a $500 weekend away.

Also, or annual "incentive" payment is 25% based on having a site average sick leave of whatever...peer group pressure is supposed to pressure the malingerers (rather than managers doing their job).

Result is people coming to work dripping nasal fluids, coughing over the telephones and other people.

(As I've said to my boss a couple of times...first time someone comes to work with the measles will be the end of that policy).

Keep in mind Buster ..that you probably had it before your carpool companion started showing symptoms. By the time he showed symptoms ..you were probably long ago infected.

My expartner was obsessive about it being everyone elses fault that he got sick. I said, Don, do you buy gas, go shopping, breath the same air that the rest of the people in Reading do (where he lived)? Do you handle money, and change in the same locker room that I do (with 40-50 other guys although not at the same time)? Do your kids go to school and have friends over??

He answered, "Yes".

Then what makes you think that everyone else is responsible for you getting sick?? How do you know that you're just more resistant to the bug and that you're the one spreading it around and are just the last one to show symptoms???

Kivx appears to be the only one to have a lifestyle that will allow him some relief from the liabilities of normal human behavior.

My daughter got sick last weekend. Trip to the doctors for a script. 5 days later ..I'm sick ..my other daughter who just came home on Friday from college got sick ..her boyfried got sick. So far my wife appears exempt.

But I'll agree that it's not pleasent to listen to anyone coughing a lung out right next to you. I would also agree that if one stayed home and left the symptoms untreated it would probably pass quicker than using symptom supressants that allow you to carry on spreading your emissions around to those who haven't yet caught it.

I am afraid I am one of those who has gone into work sick many a time, but partly because I had work that had to be done and I didn't really want to do overtime later. Thankfully, I have not been getting sick as frequently as I used to.

We used to have an unlimited sick day policy at work. They took that away after people started abusing it. So now it's after 3 days, you need a doctors note. Thats fine with me. I'm heading their today.

The thing that bothers me about some sick people is how they infect others with their poor hygiene habits. When some of these folks use phones, tools, door handles etc., they don't usually wipe them off with something after they use it. Coughing, sneezing, shaking hands etc., is another thing some sick people aren't considerate of. Manners and courtesy can go a long way towards keeping a virus from spreading.

I have a coworker who takes pride in the fact that he comes into work no matter how bad/sick he feels. He sort of boasts about it and puts down others who call in sick.

I used to go to work if I didn't feel well, but if I was really sick with a fever, I'd stay home. It looks like their are also 3 other people in my group that have come down with something similar. Now it's impossible to ever pin point exactly where you caught something, but I have a strong feeling that my friend did get me sick and maybe a few more. So his great loyalty to the company resulted in a net loss of 3 other workers. Good job!

Maybe he will get a raise.
