Going Back to Work

Retirement is great. I can't imagine going back to work. And I really liked my work, the people I worked with, the people I worked for, the way I was treated, etc.

I've been retired for 10 years and I haven't been bored yet.

But different strokes, and all that.

In my former life I worked at Three Mile Island. They plan on starting it up again. I worked in Engineering, Maintenance, and Training.

I am really excited to go back at the age of 78!
You are truly blessed if your health is good , have the ambition and to enjoy your work. Older workers have so much to offer. Best of luck to you, I think it's great that you are able to do what you want.!

I'm retired at 63. At 68 if I ever go back to work again, I'm going to feel guilty that each time I go to work everyday I'm robbing a job that is supposed to go to GenXs, Millinnials, Gen Zs or a recent college grad. Well, If the economy goes at full speed next year or so and shortages at the workforce and the pay is even much better, I might change my mind.

I think that's great! Hopefully you'll be able to pass off some of your skills/experience and knowledge to others and they are willing to learn. I see many contractors in their mid 80's that are great shape and working. Everyone is different. Time does not treat all the same. Stay busy and connected. What an experience...reliving your past in the present!

I don't think you would be robbing anyone of a job. I have been offered a job with two trade schools to teach Auto technology (fancy word for auto mech) because there is no one even applying for that job. I have been considering it for night courses but not 6 hour days.

Good for you. For most people retirement gets old and they like to contribute to a job as well as increase their financial accounts. Plus, I have never had a job that doesn't include an interesting soap opera of events. It's fun to see what other people do with their lives and you can share your experiences too. If nothing else you can see how good the economy is as they walk in to work in the morning with their gourmet coffees and breakfast goodies. I retired doing nothing for over 2 years and went back to work 20 hours per week from Monday through Friday at a large vehicle dealership and I love it. I still have plenty of time for a large array of hobbies including smoking meats and grilling, Corvette events, hunting, ice and boat fishing as well as trying to walk 10,000 steps every day. Again congrats on the new job!

I retired in May 2023 (at age 53) after 31 years doing retouching in Photoshop and I wasn’t bored with retirement nor did I feel a massive urge to rejoin the workforce in any way. But when my ex wife started a tour company in Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake and asked me if I wanted to be a part time tour guide I jumped at the chance and I love it! It doesn’t feel like a job though. I’m outside enjoying the beauty of the Niagara region meeting fantastic people from all around the world. I could never imagine going back to a 9-5 office job with all the typical politics that happens but this is so different and fun.
