Back Surgery

I'm an Electrical Engineer (Specializing in power and in mining ) by profession. I was working for a, lets say larger company, but it required constant travel and was told point blank one day, go on a cross country trip or quit or be fired, at the time I had to get my best friend to drive me to work just to make it to the office ( my left leg would just collapse at random times, sitting in a car seat made it much worse, so I would lay in the back of the car), so I resigned, figured that was better on the resume then being fired. I've been walking...a lot, and that has seems to have helped.

Jesus, man. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Workers vs. Bosses. Who do you think wins?

Just watch this.

Anyone here had Back Surgery? I'm possibly looking at having a discectomy (L5-S1), though based on the MRI the Neurosurgeon said a fusion might be a have to once he got to look at it. Been out of work now for months ( Company Buyout) (Going on 7 months), was hoping that giving my back some R&R would get it to settle back down but that appears to not be the case. I was hoping to get it back to good enough shape to go back to work but I don't know. Just looking to see if anyone else has been down this miserable road before.
Go see a spine specialist first because a general neurosurgeon might lean too quickly toward fusion when you might just need a microdiscectomy. My L5-S1 disc was completely blown out last year and I ended up getting a second opinion from Dr. Saqib Siddiqui to verify if fusion was avoidable. His team mapped out a less invasive plan that got me back on my feet without losing mobility. Skip the general clinics and find someone who deals specifically with minimally invasive corrective spine work.

Any update from cheetah50 on his back problems ?

I myself have had 2 back surgeries. Both of which were successful. I did not have a
choice of waiting too long for the L4-L5 disc to heal itself or realign with my spine.
The disc between the L4 - L5 vertebrae had "micro ruptured" the 1st time and "macro
ruptured the 2nd time. I no longer have a disc between the L4 - L5 vertebrae. 2nd
neurosurgeon removed all of it, because it blew apart.

My 1st neurosurgeon switched specialties in to pediatric neurosurgery. My 2nd neuro-
surgeon has passed away. I now have a 3rd neurosurgeon that I have recently had
an "in depth consultation" with.

He gave me options as to what I "might" want to do in the future. Presently I take
a "low dosage" of Ibuprofen daily to be able to function and do some things around my
home.

I would recommend this 3rd neurosurgeon to anyone with lumbar \ thoracic \ cervical
pain \ issues. He also teaches neurosurgery. I consider him to be very knowledgeable,
"down to Earth", and has an exceptionally good "bedside manner".

If cheetah50 wants more info on this particular neurosurgeon, then please send me a
PM. This neurosurgeon practices & teaches in Jackson, Mississippi.

One of the questions that this neurosurgeon asked me was: " How is your quality of
life with the amount of pain you are experiencing ? " We discussed very in depth
options.

Everyone is different with their particular symptoms & conditions. Just saying...

Greatly appreciated if you would. Unfortunately the situation hasn't improved that much to be honest. My left leg gave out going up some steps last week and it took out both of my front teeth. So I'm running around now barely able to talk or eat. Which is to say I'm absolutely miserable .

L4-S1 done at 62 and best thing I’ve done.
Past August at 72 had ACDF pretty much entire neck rebuild with Titanium and a spacer in the front of the neck (day 1 front done and day 3 neck) 2 weeks in hospital and one week in the hospital’s rehab. Even though I was walking after the 2nd day with the walker.
Absolutely the best surgeon here in Dallas in my opinion.
