I love going to WM and checking out everything sometimes not just oil but like grocery, Bakery but especially oil and car section. I go to Automotive just to see if they hired any nice people sometimes. The kind that might help you unscrew your AIR FILTER COMPARTMENT so you can blow out your air filter! The oils.. well I have to see if they have the ones I use IN STOCK like the MC, PP and M1 but I check for 5 qt jugs first for $$avings! Ohh and nexttime, I will see if they have any miracle oil grades like 0w-20 M1.

Heck yeah. Since I've been lurking around BITOG, I stop at all the Auto Zones while on vacation. Last month I found a quart of 04 vintage GC in Foley, AL. I was pumped since I was one quart short of a change.

My wife has come to grips with my need to peruse the automotive section. My problem now is that I must take one of the girls with me. There in lies the battle. Who will be stuck with daddy this time? Ahh, the joy of staring at the multiple bottles of motor oil. The thrill of finding forgotten bottles of SLOB. The primal urge to catch that once in every 4-month sale. The screams of…”Good grief daddy! Let’s go! It’s the same stinking oil that it was last time we were here!!”

Same thing here, the misses knows that if we are going to the walmart I will puruse the oil section. She always gets mad but hey, what can you do.

They are getting ready to open a Advance auto part right across the street from autozone, I can not wait for the bogof offers..

When I went into autozone was just looking if they had any specials, only thing i ever see is buy 5 or 6 quarts of oil and get either a free fram or bosch filter. I was thinking to myself that once aap opens up and they do there bogof i probably wont be in here anymore. One salesman (who obviously knows nothing about oil) wanted to show me the "purple passion" as he called it. I knew right away he was referring to royal purple, he said it's $7 a quart it has to be good. I said you would be surprised and walked out.

About 5 miles from my house there is a Murrays Auto across the street from a Pep Boys. A quarter mile down is an AutoZone and 1.25 miles from there is an Advance Auto. It is an oleophilic's heaven.

oleophilic: having an affinity for oils or oily substances.

Yeah me too, and I drive my wife and kids nuts...they have a standing joke about where dad is, and they seem to enjoy that :-)

whenever i go to walmart or another large department store im always drawn to the oil isle, i not only look at the oil products but all the other automotive stuff as well. i guess im looking for the deal of the century or the holy grail of oil deals or something. it doean't matter if i was there the day before, i'll still check it. i dont know why i do it because ive never really stumbled across a great deal but its the anticipation that i think i get the rush out of. its kinda like waiting for the horse race then finding a horse i like and then they line up at the gate and then THEY'RE OFF, then the next race goes off in 20 minutes and it all starts again. lately ive been finding myself looking at the oil shelf at little drug stores too to find the $5 quarts of penzoil yellow. i guess im just itchin to report with a "look what i found" thread....persistance may pay off one of these days......

It's nice to see that we have a support group for our disorder...

Hi, my name is Brad, and I'm an oil addict.

I too have a weakness for browsing the shelves of motor oils. I swear the employees of Walmart and AutoZone must think I'm some kind of nut. I'll go into the store, spend 20 minutes looking at and reading the bottles, and then walk out buying nothing at all. They must think I'm crazy (which I am BTW).

Before I came to this site, I had never before known a person that so carefully thought out their oil changes, doing research after research, reading product data sheets, looking over oil analysis, etc, just to do something as simple as change my oil.

Just for fun, sometimes during my lunch break I'll call up different Ford dealerships and ask them what oil they use in their oil changes... You'd be surprised at some of the responses I've gotten. One service advisor said they use a 0w50 oil (ahh, yeah, ok). I asked why they used that oil, when Ford recommends 5w20. He went on to "educate" me that a wider viscosity oil will perform better, because when it's 80* out, then it will act like a 20weight; when it's 90* out, it will act like a 30weight, and so on... The funny thing is that I know for a fact that that dealership uses 5w20, but the service advisor has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.

My wife swears that I not only have to go down the oil aisle, but that I have to read the back of each bottle before we leave the store. It's a healthy hobby and I tell her that the engine is always CLEAN!

I do that too, alwas have ever since i had my liscense. Even today, when i go to my 2 local walmarts, fist place i go too, is the oil and filter section, just to poke around se what deals are on, whats new, shake the bottles lol. One hting i have alwasy noticed at my local walmart is, the uaker state synthetic 5w 30 oils in clear bottle.... Thier al always darker, than the ones at advance auto or autozone, seems really weird..
And yes, i also scan the chikees out too;)

I work Friday, Saturday and Sunday @ Lowe's. There is a Walmart and Advance Auto are right across the street and a Napa about 1 mile down the road. Guess where I spend my "lunch" times

I use to frequent nude bars...that was before I discovered this site, so now my evenings are spent fondling oil bottles at ChinaMart, AutoZone, and Kragen...besides, it's cheaper then lap dances...although my significant other perfers the old days, when I would get caught with Nude bar receipts in my pant pockets...oh well...

...and over time, one needs to do more and more to get that oil "high"...lately, and on nights the significant other works late, I have been known to come home, take off the clothes, and spread Penzoil Plat 5W20 all over my body...and before you judge, give it a try, then you will know....

Guilty as charged sir. When I stopped to use the "porcelin convenience" at a Shell Quickie Mart in Leesburg FL I found some Kendall GT-1 5w-30, which is nigh on impossible to find where we live. We all have our pecadillos but I have to agree with ThirdYe...to much information lovcom.
