GM's going to try to build them, however they can...

Saw 2 - 2021 Tahoes on my local dealer's lot. We're getting to the point where it isn't what they have on them for options that is interesting... it's what they *don't* have for options.

Both of these were missing DOD, which was a $50 credit... an ignition lock, which was another $50 credit... and wireless charging, which was a $75 credit.

A staggering $125 credit on an $70,000 vehicle. Honestly, why do they even bother. But, if this is what it is going to take, for production to continue... then I guess they're going to have to do it.

We have a 2021 Tahoe. Bought it last September and it has 12k miles on it. I think I could probably sell it for what we paid for it, if not more.

It's not DFM that they're removing, but rather auto start stop. You also can't option them with a few other things...like brake controllers.

What's DOD and an ignition lock?

Edit - displacement on demand. Still curious about the ignition lock, thought Tahoes were all push button start by now.

DFM is still being disabled as well, on the trucks, anyway.

Glad we were able to find a 2021 Suburban with the options we wanted (namely air suspension which is not being built at the moment). Wouldn’t mind having the auto stop start removed but it’s just become part of the start up process. Turn ignition on, buckle seatbelt, push stop start button, tell kids to rowdy down back there, drive.

Ford also offered $50 to remove auto stop start on F-150s which I tried to add to my order but I guess they were too close to the build date to make the change.

Dennywires- yo I really think Ford and other manufacturers want to just store thousands of vehicles waiting on a chip as some big conspiracy?

My-my, how the quickly the responses become childlike at the mention of GM …
Its not all that complex. GM thought the new vehicle market was going to take a nosedive so they adjusted their purchases of electronics. The market took a small short term dip but rebounded almost immediately. The chip manufacturers moved to other allocations of production. By the time GM figured out they needed the same amount of chips (or more) the production was already allocated elsewhere. You dont just throw up a pole barn and start making chips. its just a tad more complex than that. Essentially GM (and by extension many other OEM's) brought the shortage on themselves.

GM’s market share continues to decline. Doesn’t matter what GM does as this point, less people are buying their vehicles.

Poeple will keep buying their vehicles... if they're cheap enough and they can finance them cheaply, and the credit approval process is "easy." But no, no one will pay for overpriced second-rate vehicles, nope, won't happen.

You may have missed it several years ago. Current CEO Mary Barra publicly said she was okay with declining market share because their vehicles were selling at higher transaction prices, with little to no incentives on the hood.

Their vehicles have gotten more expensive to make up for the lost market share lol.
