My 2003 GMC Sierra 4.6L V-6 engine (65,000 mi) has recently started to show symptoms (must crank warm engine several seconds to start) of a failing fuel pressure regulator. Failing fuel pressure regulators at low miles (sometimes under 30,000) has been a problem on GM engines for many years. Does anyone know if the replacement GM parts have ever been improved or whether replacements from other sources (NAPA, AutoZone, etc.) are any better than the original that came in my truck?
Replacing it on my 4.6 V-6 looks like a fair amount of work and I want it to be a one time experience.
Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't rule out a clogged fuel filter if it hasn't been changed every 30k or so.

4.6 V6? I only know of a 4.3 V6 and a 4.8 V8.

Oops - I confused it with my 96 T-Bird 4.6L. It is, of course, a 4.3L Chevy V-6 engine. The fuel filter was replaced at about 50,000 miles - long before the present long crank problem appeared.
Thanks.

Replacing the FP regulator helped a '00 Silverado showing problems at only 20-25k miles.

Dealer replaced it under extended warranty. No problems so far.

The truck had a bad idle problem. The fuel filter was replaced, TB and MAF cleaned, and fuel system cleaner was run through numerous times.

Replacing the F.P. regulator is the only thing that helped.
