Last time I tried really hard for no mess/drips, I put the drain pan on a milkcrate right underneath drain plug. Worked lie a charm......until for some unknown reason I decided to roll the truck backward by hand a foot or so. I heard the full drain pan get pushed off the crate immediately before the puddle spread outside of the truck.

Looking at the size of that plug, I think they implement it to make the oil change at the dealerships faster.
