Gm Invests in V-8 Engines Back pedaling on EVs

Disappointing to some folks, including myself. I've mentioned it and others have too about the lack of EV direction.

Kudos to GM for making the decision. They have never been profitable in their EV business ("variable" profit is not profitable as it doesn't not include fixed cost and is highly dependent on sales volume). The sunsetting tax credit benefit will hurt their, and other's, margins.

It's too bad their EV aspirations (and their ability to sell them profitably ) can't support another division, like a new "Saturn" where those folks can concentrate on making world-class EVS, and the ICE folks at Chevy, Buick and GMC can concentrate on making engines that don't self-destruct. Right now they're producing EVS that don't sell, and trucks with engines that everybody's afraid to buy. Are they failing in their attempt to be all things to all people?

At this point, maybe GM should bring back the port injection, non cylinder deactivated LS3 and be done with it.
A friend of mine has a 277K mile junkyard LQ4 in his 69 Galaxie with 2 decent size turbos, still in tuning stage so no numbers, but it absolutely boogies. We took it to lunch and on the way back heard tapping. Also I forgot to mention it had 3psi of oil pressure at idle. Monday we pulled it out and started tearing it apart. Bearings looked brand new. The o-ring on the pickup that matched the pan had the wrong o-ring. It is getting a new cam, forged rotating assembly, and a dingleberry hone before a trip to the dyno. The 2-step still worked before we parked it. It will have traction control through the Holley Dominator. I would rather be able to do something like that anyday over having an EV.

At the end of the day - work has to get done too. The 6.0L without all the wiz bang systems up top is a very reliable and long lasting motor pushing older HD LT’s and HD vans etc …
As an owner of 5.3L’s with both AFM & DFM - I know they can’t always go the distance the 6.0 does …
