Gm Invests in V-8 Engines Back pedaling on EVs

I'm waiting for the new Toyota BZ to come out and then hopefully later get a Highlander hybrid as well (or a RAV4 hybrid). Meanwhile our national debt keeps climbing....

No tax credit and a $250 state + $250 federal annual registration which may eventually balloon to $1000
Not until December 31, and I will believe it when I see it.

DC has never met a give-away they didn't like. The tax credit was supposed to go away for each OEM after 200,000 units applied. It was there to entice there front end commitment to EV's. But of course it was made "permanent" in 2020 or around then.

Are they going to make a reliable v8 again?

Again? When did they begin?

Even the old "350" ate valve guide seals for lunch and had a litany of other typical GM issues.

Well didn't dodge claim they're "going to stop making V8s"?

They did. And then they did as they said. And then their sales fell off a cliff. They had the #1 muscle car in the nation, and the EV version has been the worst selling vehicle since the Yugo. They had the #2 truck in the nation, passing Chevy nameplate for the first time in history, and then sales fell every quarter for the last two years. They said "no more V8" and then sales disappeared and their company nearly imploded until the CEO resigned and currently they are trying to save the company. New CEO announced today, brought back the guy responsible for the Hellcat engines and put him in charge of Ram, etc. Hopefully it's not too late.

And the SBC of the 70s was known for metallurgy problem and wiping cam lobes.

But they didn't completely blow up like the newer ones! They ran poorly, forever.

Viewing the trend-line of the past decade, BEV volume and share is increasing.
This would seem to indicate that any serious volume player in the industry needs to be active in developing product in this space.
In GM's case, it may simply be a matter of their having put a lot of money and effort into the wrong BEV designs and that is remediable.
Haven't heard, "Wait till the big boys get in" in awhile... They got in but so far with poor ROI.
The winning combination seems to be a pure play EV design, not a ICE platform with a cobbled together EV drivetrain and a whatever nameplate.

KISS keet it simple stupid!! at least as simple as a modern engine can be meeting emission requirements!! less junk = less weight making better mpgs!!!

I didn't write that either so I'm not sure where you got that from.
What I wrote is what you rephrased in your second sentence.
If GM wants to play, as I think they have to, then GM needs to come up with a design that better fits the heart of the EV market.
Big and grossly obese trucks ain't it.

My point was not that you said "Wait..."; rather to point out the assumption that building, selling and profiting in the EV market would be easy. It proved to be anything but. Just about every company has never turned a profit, even while gaining market share.

Now they are retreating, even in a growing market.

Well...

GM Cadillac plans on being an F1 engine supplier by 2029. Building a V8 with two cylinders lopped off or adding two cylinders for a proposed V10 isn't out of the question.

The difference is that the beasts from the ‘70’s were fixed with a $69 Crane Camshaft and a weekend’s work.
My old Vette L36 is running a mild Crane split duration cam. 2nd gear might get you sideways...

The G8 GXP version with 6sp manual, in everything. We’ll even accept the low-throttle skip shift 🐂 as long as it keeps both engine and trans alive!
That is an emissions thing. I Defeated it the first day I owned my manual SS LS3. Now @109,000 miles with engine and Tremec quite intact.
