Anyone ever go to www.gmheritagecenter.com? You can get some good detailed info about past and pretty recent vehicles. For instance you can look at the engineering report and features of the 1955 Chevy http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-...atures-1955.pdf. It's pretty interesting stuff, like the engine was dyno tested starting down at 600-800 RPM, and tested for SAE gross and net. Net HP was usually only about 20% less than gross so these vehicle were making some power. The '55 Chevy was well engineered and advanced for the time.

That was the Old General Motors once owned by the GM bond holders who were robbed in the bailout of their ownership. They should at least get all the proceeds or have intellectual property rights to that site. After all...they paid for it. The "New GM" is simply trying to tie itself to those images. I grew up on those images. Too bad that is now all history.

yea, yea, exciting stuff....I heard they're going to landscape the parking lot with lemon trees....could be a cool look, and how appropriate too!!

The bondholders got 10% of new GM working out to about 30 cents on the dollar. That's all they probably would've been able to get in any bankruptcy.

But at least the UAW didn't benefit from those subsidies- which makes me feel a LOT better...

That's what is all about really. We just can't have any average person work hard and benefit. Only the very tip top should benefit. Btw, afaik, every car in your signature is union made (Germany and Japan autoworkers are unionized)

True, but they aren't the UAW. and I bought my Wrangler used, so I gave as little aid and comfort to the UAW as possible. That's the major concern I have about buying an Abarth- the engine is built in a UAW plant. I hate the thought of benefiting them in even the smallest way.

I'm just the opposite. If I like the car and the price is competitive, I consider it a bonus that the car was made by decently compensated workers that have a voice in their workplace. I'd feel exploited paying as much or more for a car made larger with low-payed and temporary workers. I'm not sure how the UAW is worse than IG Metall or other foreign unions.

Also GM Opel didn't go to Germany and get subsidized, non-union, low wage workers to unfairly compete against the domestic makers. I don't see why foreign automakers should in the US either.

bingo!

The astounding thing is that these Faux News kool aid drinkers are completely brainwashed to the point where they worship at the feet of any brass tack exec no matter how terrible a job they do, and you NEVER hear these people that complain about the rank and file workers EVER have critical comments about their worshipful masters. Ripping off the company with huge pay offs for creating a profit loss, or even severely damaging the health of a company long term, like many of these MBA clowns are now doing, but hey they made a short term profit LOL .

Sorry, I wouldn't know about that; I took early retirement in 2007- I never had the pleasure of working at/for ANY corporation...

Yes, you are right...TN Screwed up with that.

But, how is that my fault?!?

Someone takes the time to post a website that many on here will find useful, informative and entertaining...and this is what the thread degrades to?

Class it up people.

yea, yea, lets all just agree, get along, go along...lets all have the same opinion, ok guys!

Sheehs!! I think we need to be adult, mature, tolerant of other views, and have room in the discussion for other views too! That means being ok with views that are different from yours ;-)

This is not Jr. HS ;-)

I have to say, you certainly sound intolerant and narrow-minded; there will be no place for you in the worker's paradise our Dear Leader is so ably attempting to construct. I hereby sentence you to sing 100 stanzas of "Kumbaya" and to hang a picture of UAW President Bob King in your bedroom...

The link had nothing to with anything being discussed in here in this thread.

This was about the Heriatge center, not the UAW, Bailouts or how appropriate lemon trees would be.

Some people's children...

Yes, EXACTLY! ^^^

Some on here will NEVER, EVER miss the chance to BASH/berate; GM, ANY AND ALL unions, the current POTUS, and FLAIL their Gadsden Flags high and proud, no matter how far from the thread topic these 'opinions' may be.

Maybe I am a bit sensitive because I know a GM retiree's widow who lost her $120,000 in GM bonds that her husband had bought for their retirement. In a "legal" bankruptcy the bondholders get paid first...so she was cheated by the union her husband paid dues to for 38 years. 3 years later she lost her home in foreclosure. Now she lives in a 2 BR apartment. It is confirmed she would have received all of her money back if the large portion was not given to the UAW. Her husband bought the bonds because they were "guaranteed" by General Motors.
