For instance you can look at the engineering report and features of the 1955 Chevy http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-...atures-1955.pdf. It's pretty interesting stuff, like the engine was dyno tested starting down at 600-800 RPM, and tested for SAE gross and net. Net HP was usually only about 20% less than gross so these vehicle were making some power. The '55 Chevy was well engineered and advanced for the time.
