GM even worse than expected.

I'm only 36 and I like the Buick LaCrosse and Lucerne. I wouldn't buy one, but I think they're good looking cars. A co-worker of my wife has a white LaCrosse and it's really nice IMO.

Gotta disagree w/ Olds being for "old people" (during their last few years, anyway).

The Intrigue and Aurora were solid, well engineered and had decent performance IMO.

The Alero, now there is a car I'd like to forget.

2 of 3 ain't bad.

I rather liked the Bravada when it came out.

I think it had the most sophisticated AWD system compared to the rest of the GM variants of that vehicle.

I'd bet that GM's current vehicles are better than their critics (including me) think they are. I blame two factors more than anythiing else -

One, GM's marketing people have done an unbelievably bad job of turning around people's perceptions from the late 70's and the 80's that the cars were horrible (they were).

Two, GM styling has written all over it "BEWARE, TRASH QUALITY INSIDE." It's as if they're trying to appeal to the least intellegent buyer.

My guess is that there are some very smart GM buys out there for people in the market for a new car.

That said, the two worst vehicles I've ever owned have been GM - Chevy pickups. (yeah, yeah, I bought a second one. It's because I already had the plow rig and didn't want to buy another. The Fisher plow was first rate, btw). Both trucks had a truly cheesy quality about them, but then neither truck was new, or pampered. I still miss my 2wd Toyota "One Ton" pickup.

If I needed a cheap new car, I'd get a Saturn Ion, as I know the Ecotec engine and 4T40E transmission inside of them are proven reliable components...if I could deal with the goofy instrument cluster location, that is.

Saturn (GM) is buying engines from Honda to put in the Saturn Vue, if that tells you anything.

Tells me their non-small block V8 engineers are too stoopit.

I-4, I-5, I-6. What a joke. Or three.

I-5 and I-6 engines are excellent... I dont think people give the GM engines a chance... theyre too dumb to know anything but HP and # of cylinders, as if thats the main key determination of how good anything is.

I can think of a few I-5 and I-6 engines that will beat anything that Honda has ever produced in every way. And are more attractive engines to own than any GM small block.

I heard Mayor Bloomberg on the radio today. He stated that NYC has $50 billion of unfunded medical liabilities.

What he didn't say was that parking tickets were going to be $300.00, and that jaywalking fines would be $200.00 to fund this liability.

GM has no such income stream.

JHZ,

Sorry, but I got to disagree with you. The new "I-" engines are horrible. They have NO torque, produce 80% of the HP beyond 3500 rpm and SUCK gas like there's no tomorrow.

I had one. We had a Trailblazer with the I-6. I doubt it would pull a tin can down the road with 3lb test fishing line.

Why it is that a Suburban with a 5300 V8 can get better fuel economy, has MORE power and more torque than the I-6?

The new engines are junk.

OK, thats some interesting insight!

wasnt the TB's I-6 named one of the world's best engines for a few years?

There ARE I-5 and I-6 engines that are amongst the world's best though... In real terms of longevity, etconomy, etc.

4.8 bbbbbillion, ouch. Sounds like Chapter 11 isn't too far from a reality. GM could copy the airliners and file for bankruptcy and get a judge to break all the union contracts and start over. Not that its working for the airliners right now but monkey see monkey do.

Crystal ball was broke in the move!

I'm thoroughly confident that I've purchased my last GM vehicle.... and the only reason I purchased it was because it had polymer panels, honda engine and honda transmission and a good safety rating. Yes, it's an 06 Saturn Vue. This Vue has more horsepower and better gas mileage then it's sister Equinox.

After owning only GM vehilces my entire life starting with a 70 Cutlass S, I could care less to buy one ever again.

They've already lost and probably alienated the younth of America, most of who hate GM all together and will grow up to drive Toyota/Lexus and/or Honda.

Between myself, brother and parents we've owned 15 -17 GM vehicles. Well... this past year my brother bought an 05 Sante Fe, parents bought an 06 Tuscon and I got an 06 Vue (Honda drivetrain). GM, I'll be happy to sit back and watch the ship sink over the next 10-20 years... if it takes that long.

I liked the Chrysler 300 when it first appeared, but its swift adoption by the bling-bling and Fitty-Cent crowd has given it a bad association in my mind. (Maybe this new movie with Harrison Ford driving one will help me get over that.) Plus it looks sorta pudgy, and those smallish windows will play heck with visibility.

The Charger's attractive; I wish they made a two-door.

But sporty isn't everything, not for me. I like a rich elegant look. My Mercedes has a lot of that, and the interior appointments and the touches of chrome on the Lucerne really appeal to me. I'm a stealth sort of guy; I like fast to look stock.

Honda wanted diesel engines, GM had them, they traded, THAT's why the honda motor is in the saturn.
