I really hate most commercials in general. They tend to not focus on the product but instead some funky music and dancing and stuff. I really dislike GM commercials and just wish they would make one the shows the virtues of the car or truck w/o fancy music and other unneeded stuff. I also hate the magazine ads where they put car against a Toyota and the "benefits" of the GM car shown are 1 or 2 mpg better economy, Onstar and the warranty! Who cares about that stuff?? Let's talk features, the drivetrain, price etc.

The ad is pretty timely- considering that Gubmint Motors just bought a sub-prime lender.
Your tax dollars at work...

I think it's because the buyers of today are so stupid and could care less about the engine/transmission and care more about coolers in the glovebox for their water and coloured foot well lighting etc. and what colours the car comes in and what kind of status symbol it projects...

Then you have the second group of buyers which are of the boomer generation and they just care if the vehicle is comfortable and how much it will cost.

It's only us small group of folk that give a darn about it and that is sad because that is what matters IMO.

Every second commercial seems to be a FORD/GM/Chrysler commercial all year long with some stupid event... "Winter Sales Event" or "Independence Day Event"

I guess it varies considerably by region. All of the dealers where I live have the same cheesy commercials and lots of advertisements regarding those with bad credit -- "No Credit, No Problem!" kind of stuff. It also seems like there's a never ending 'Toyotathon' going on.

I think the worst ads are from a local Honda (or it may be Hyundai) dealer. Many dealers are advertising return policies for those who lose their jobs during the duration of their loan. Now, there's a dealer advertising a return policy for those who lose their licenses. I guess those who get lots of DUIs or don't pay child support are a giant untapped market.

I think the Toyotathon is just because of their recent P.R. nightmare...

Funny we don't have many local dealer commercials in my corner of Canada and they usually only run for a week or two at the most.

We get a lot of bleed over from Buffalo on our T.V. and it's funny to see some of the dealers with "Hi Mom" signs or the guy that owns a Hyundai Dealership telling you about the "UUUUUUGE" (Huge) deals.

If the article is fact there will be no problem as the other 39% will be more than happy to bail them out. Based upon the results of the past years.

I have to say the GM commercials in my area are the most straight laced of all auto ads. I.E, they show the Malibu and say, "The best value in the business...see your local chevy dealer." Or the "Silverado blows away the competition" but there's a customer portrayed that says, "I don't want a toy. I want a truck!".

In contrast the KIA and Hyundai commercials are so asenine and not even about the car. In one, sock puppets come to life and are driving the car with annoying music in the background. In another a car transporter is giving a whole neighborhood KIAs for free I guess. The Hyundai pitch man has the most annoying voice. Then Toyota commercials are all about promoting how Toyotas run forever and are the best. Hype and promoting myths but at least it is about the cars though I guess.

Oh oh, this sounds like the Big banks that got use in financal trouble. See to anyone, then bundle the bad loans with a few good ones and sell the batch to some unsuspecting investment firem. In the end, everyone looses. Only the big wigs at GM would do this kind is [censored].

What about the On-Star ads with the woman and kids in a crash, woman who's leg hurts, women who's in a ditch... They were all saved by a call to On-Star. GM commercial (don't remember which vehicle) with the woman's testimonial of having a car full of kids and starting to slide but only because she had AWD she was able to regain control...

Not because I drive a Hyundai or because I'm a fan of Korean brands but I like the Hyundai commercials. I find them creative albeit not really to do with the vehicle...

The Kia one where the toys come alive and go around town is very cool... "HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW" is a great song!

I hate those Hyundai "uncensored" commercials. Of course it's censored, it's actors/actresses reading scripts. And it looks like they were inspired by bait car videos, but they lack all of the entertainment found in bait car videos.

GM commercials also bother me. In particular those with Howie Long and Whitacre.

Come to think of it, Subaru commercials bother me more than most too. I hate the music, the moral superiority theme in some of them (you can't have honest virtues if you have a car cooler than a Forester), etc.

Actually, come to think of it, most car commercials are horrible. Only a few are not annoying, and a much smaller number of them are actually entertaining. I think the marketing departments at many of these companies either think we are stupid, or they themselves are stupid.

I have to be honest, the hamster commercials are some of the better ones from Hyundai/Kia IMO. Why? It's creative, somewhat entertaining, and memorable. Rodents are not normally something you would want to associate with cars, but it actually kind of works. It also suggests the idea that a car should be more than some appliance thing that makes you forget you are driving. That said, I still wouldn't get caught dead owning a Kia Soul, but I think the hamster commercial is better than most.

Anyone see the Chrysler commercial with the preacher? That was annoying, but not as annoying as Mike in the Ford commercials.
