My own 99 chev silverado with the 5.3 has over 260000 and still starts first turn with no consumption whatsoever.
Obviously you haven't read any of the pages written by dnewton on the sites homepage. I suggest you do. You will then understand the utter absurdity of a 3000 mile drain interval and its effects on the tribochemical layer they lubricant applies to the engines wear points.

Awesome I will check that out. Thank you

Why? You aren't doing your engine any favors. dexos1 is a tougher spec than any conventional oil. And, don't be afraid of running the oil for its full life, not just for 3k.

I had good luck using GTX on my parents vehicle. Call me crazy, if i can use conventional its clearly GTX. Ive been using syn oil ( amsoil, syntec, QS, rotella, val syn and mobil EP) in my previous toys (evo, s2k and 350z) im tired of standing front of bunch oils and thinking about which one to use. Lo

How about dino at the OLM specified, as long as the manual doesn't REQUIRE Dexos.

Save money is good.

If my main goal is save money on oil. Follow up dealer's free oil change untill 24k and use any top brand dino (whatever on sale) and do 5k.

There.

For a mild application such as your LS 5.3 any conventional 5W30 that meets API specs your engine will outlast the rest of the truck.

The choice to use a dexos-1 spec brand is up to you. But it is not required.

IF you can afford $35,000 for a new truck you should be able to afford an extra 30 cents per quart of oil to maintain it.

O.K. Here's what to do. Change it at 3k intervals and let the dealer change it at 6,12,18,24,etc. Take your preferred oil to the dealer,if you want that oil put in by the dealer.

Good idea, the only thing I'd add is make sure the dealer actually puts the oil in that you gave him. That means being there to watch unfortunately. Sometimes the oil you bring goes home with the tech and the bulk oil they use goes in the car.

dealer's free oil change untill 24k

Changing oil every 3k miles is a big waste of money and time. News Flash, my local Chevy dealer uses bulk 10w30 in central Texas. Service guy stated too hot for 5w30.
If you don't want to follow the OLM in the vehicle, just change it every 5k with Pennzoil Plantinum (10w-30), rotate tires and be done. That's what I did on mine and never had any issues..

I'd just continue to use any oil that is Dexos approved and change my oil every 6K according to my OLM.

I admit when I got my Chevy Impala SS back in 09' I had allot to re-learn as I liked to change my oil every 3K too.

Now I can't get along with out the OLM. It's really a great help for me. It's tells me to change every 6K.

Currently I use Mobil 1 in all my cars.

Durango

Get your free oil changes at the dealer and then worry about it. The Chevy dealer I go to keeps Dexos oil in their bulk tanks and I would assume all Chevy dealers do.

Please read whole posts.

However, there are many dexos licensed oils readily available at a reasonable price, so there's really no reason not to use them.

That being said, if you get "free" oil changes from your dealer I would just go that route. Remember, those oil changes aren't really free, you paid for them in the purchase price of the truck. Just don't let them talk you into buying any other nonsense that you don't need.

If you do have the dealer do the oil changes, have them DOCUMENT the source and specs of the bulk oil they are using.

So does your engine require Dexos or is it just the old GM6094M? Would help to know.

Reason i asked isnt about cost.

You said you get free dealer oil changed at 6K miles. So go there and get your free dealer oil changes. You gain nothing by changing more frequently.

If it's 2011+ engine i don't see why you wouldn't use a dexos spec'd oil, doesn't dexos kinda go hand in hand with the vvt and afm that your truck is equipped with, might make things easier internally to run the dexos spec'd oil.

I'm assuming its a newer 5.3 because you got the 24/24 maintenance plan
