Just picked one up a while back to help teach my wife to shoot a handgun, sons too b/c the only other one I have is a Glock 20 10mm which is fun but not the best to learn with. Fiunally got out to go shoot it where I work - we have a range in one of the quarries close by that I can use on the weekend...perfect. Out of the box and ran a few '00 rounds of basic Federal bulk .22 LR through it (the kind in a bucket at Cabela's) and not a single jam/issue. Nice and smooth and plenty to have fun with and easy to teach/manipulate etc. Happy with the purchase. I paid about $400 (?) I believe...was about 6 mos. ago. Sure cheaper to shoot than the 10mm :ROFLMAO: but I did about 100 through that b/c it's fun. I had shot a buddy's G44 a few years ago and was happy with it and why I bought it.

Just pay attention to loading rounds into the magazine (per YouTube G44 loading magazines videos) and keeping it cleaned and lubricated . Lastly, the G44 is a gateway drug to a new G19 Gen 6 (lol !)

Yes we had a few issues loading the mag.

I'd like to pick up another trainer and dedicate it as a wife gun, so she only needs to learn/master/track one manual of arms. She can put it where she wants, manage it, carry it, etc. I have an older S&W M&P 22, the earlier wather based design. TX22, M&P Compact22, are on the list.

G44 is on the short list, but recently they have a pretty bad reputation...

Almost bought a Glock 44…just never did 🤷🏻‍♂️

Couple of Walther P22’s satisfies my 22LR needs

Yes agree the 10mm isn’t a training pistol for most people

Have a SA XD Elite 4.5” that’s a handful for even a seasoned shooter

It is hard to beat the Glock system. Good quality, and the full power offerings will have the same controls and feel......when they want to bump up to a proper pistol caliber.

Nice.

I'm an ODU alum. Have a neighbor whole daughter goes/was on campus that day. Sad news.

It's certainly been easy for me to pick up as a somewhat n00b to handguns. Simple tools that just work over and over again. It's why they are they make the most popular hand gun in the world.

The G44 is pretty decent now after a few revisions that addressed feed and fire issues that plagued earlier ones. Heard they can still be a bit picky about some rimfire ammo though, but I don't know. Haven't shot one in quite some time. When I wanted a more medium sized .22, I compared the (then new) G44 to the Taurus TX-11. Even though I have several Glock pistols, and like to shoot them, the Taurus won my $$$ for several reasons.

Totally agree on the premise to buy a medium format .22 to teach/learn fundamentals to beginning shooters. Unless your wife and sons are total masochists, shooting a 10mm is NOT really considered a beginner caliber. Fun though 😁. With the G44, I think you picked a good one.

Glock puts out a fine firearm. I got my CWP using the ranges Glock 44. My wife has a Walther P22 which is also a good firing pistol but I do favor the Glocks simple build and aesthetics.

I shot my buddy's a few years ago and I believe it's an older version and it jammed several times. Mine was flawless but only ran a hundred or so rounds through it. Just pulled it out of the box so to say and used it.

I would add a couple drops of oil on the rails, barrel hood and around the barrel. I know Glocks come with that copper colored grease on them, but once you’ve shot it a bit, it’s time for some lube.

From your owner manual:

Your GLOCK pistol should be cleaned and lubricated as follows:

1. when brand new, before first time it is fired, plus

2. after each time it is fired, plus

3. as required. This will be determined by your pistol's exposure to adverse conditions during storage or use such as rain, snow, perspiration, salt water, dirt, dust, lint, etc. Additionally, your pistol should be cleaned and inspected if it has been dropped or if any broken parts are suspected or malfunctions experienced, plus

4. at least every 100 rounds fired ensuring protection against your firearm jamming or losing accuracy.

If you put 100 rounds through a brand new G44 without issue, chances are you have one of the updated pistols. Try different ammo and see what it likes best, all .22s seem to have a favorite. I'm getting 100% with CCI Mini-Mag 40gr plated round nose in the TX, or the CCI 45gr. plain lead HPs if I screw on the DeadAir. Basic maintenance and it should serve y'all well.

That is on my list for sure. I have the PPQ .22 and the FN 502 Tactical so far and they have been great. Love the little .22 plinkers (y)

My Buckmark Camper gets used hard and put away wet. It just doesn't get the care that some of my others do mainly because it's 'just a rimfire'. But I love that thing and its the only one that my wife feels comfortable with.

It was Federal...whatever Cabellas had for ~100 and change in a plastic tub w/~1450 rounds.

Yep, amongst other things.

They marketed to police around the world, at a very low price, had spare parts, provided armorer training, etc..........just to get their feet in the door. In doing so, cornered the market early. Sure there are others who make just as good if not better pistols, but I really like the similarities of guns between calibers. No matter the caliber, all controls are the same.

Huge deal.

Training folks who are not fluent in running pistols, dont need the added aggravation of different mag releases, slide lock levers, mag releases etc.

22 to 45 same gun, well kind of.

Exactly. My G20 and this are for the intent here - the same as will a 9mm be when I grab one of those at some point.
